rh242603
Hello all - Got a 98 Shee and took her out for the first time over the weekend. Has larger Carbs (Keihein PWK), boost bottle, and a few more mods. Starts up fine and idles good, but would bog down going into first unless I feathered it. Once going, runs fine. Rode the dunes a bit and headed back to the truck, put her in neutral and when I tried t put her back in gear, she was stuck in neutral. Shut her off and shifted through the gears, wouldn't grab any gear and just stayed in neutral. Tore the side cover off, took clutch basket off, checked all components, all looked good. Shifted through the gears and just wouldn't catch and rear tires just spun as if in neutral. Was thinking tranny was trashed so started to button the Shee back up and realized the pancake bearing was the culprit. I think it rattled loose when I was riding, throwing the clutch all out of wack. I tightened it enough for the clutch to work and buttoned her back up. filled her up with some ATF type F and kicked her over. Let her warm up a bit and shifted her into first, started to roll forward and I shifted into second. Almost feels like when I shift into second, it kicks into neutral for 2 seconds and has no power, but then will start to go in that gear. Does the same for all other gears. Any ideas? I am going to mess with the pancake bearing again tonight to see if it helps, but it just seems like it takes time before it "catches" gear. I don't think my forks or anything are bent, ne metal shavings or anything were in the fluids. With the bogging, I am going to inspect for air leaks but I really don't think there are any. Ill mess with idle and air screws tonight on the carbs. I am running 32:1 mix. Thanks for any info you guys may provide.

Claw is barely touching the top cog on the start so maybe I will adjust it down a tad bit. Just don't know why it would run fine then pop out of gear all the way then now its like its not catching all the way. It will go into gear, but it will not be fully in gear and will rev up real high but still be in gear slightly. Pretty weird. I have the side case back off as I was investigating again last night but all seems fine. I did notice in my clutch basket though, the discs and fibers go like this (metal, fiber, metal, fiber, metal fiber, etc.. but on the last fiber, I do not have a metal disk to put in between the last two fibers, is there supposed to be metal in between those x2 fibers at the end?). I'm stumped, I don't think I need to be buying a new bottom end just yet, but I don't know where else to look right now.
Ayesully810
doesnt sound like a tranny issue but i could be wrong. replace eccentric screw if worn and use cylmer manual to adjust it properly, shows very clearly how to do it. as for the clutch? is goes FIBER, metal, F, m,F,m,F etc. ENDING on fiber, not metal. should be 7 fibers. also makes sure your shift shaft is seating properly all the way through the case on the other side with the spacer behind the shifter.. if it comes out slightly it could effect the grab. locogato11283
That clutch is gone. Yes, there’s supposed to be a steel between fibers. Buy a new clutch. Install. Go ride. Just make sure all the adjustments are right before you go.
rh242603
Already picked up new clutch discs from EBC, will soak and install tonight. Will adjust tonight and hopefully have a good answer by morning.
rh242603
Put the discs in last night, seemed to be the issue. Adjusted properly and running through gears just fine. Now I need to figure out this low end bog. Got Keihin carbs on it so need to adjust those and hopefully no more issues.
locogato11283
What size carbs? They might just be too big for the motor.
