CKylesworld Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 I have an 89 shee and I took the carb apart to see what size jet was in it, I am pretty sure it said 200. Is this the stock size jet? When I got it the shee had fmf pipes and silencers. It ran fine but now I have added ported reed cages, +4 degree key and a K&N filter. So far I have only put the K&N filte and the degree key in, it seems to die out if you gap it, its like you have to rev it up. I have a know when I put the ported reed cages in it will be worse. Does anybody have any idea what size jet I should try. I would really like to try to get it right the first time. Taking those carbs off is a B@*#H! Christy Quote

Christy 200 210 and 220 mains come with the bike as far as I know. If it won't idle, but will idle if you touch the throttle, you need to go up one size on the PILOT jet. $7.00 each or so for the stock Mikuni carb, from a Yamaha dealer only. Anywhere else for any other carb they are about $2.00 When you say "gap it" whatchoo talkin bout? Quote
Fox73-Zz Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 PILOT jet. $7.00 each or so for the stock Mikuni carb, from a Yamaha dealer only.Anywhere else for any other carb they are about $2.00 White Bros has the pilot's for $2.50 each. You can get them from parts direct for $2.05 each, but if you only want the jets, buy them locally through a WB dealer, the PD shipping will end up costing more than you save. If you need part numbers, let me know. To the original poster: Nobody can say 100% sure if you need to go up in jet size, only your machine can tell you that, but it is likely that you need to. With pipes/filter, you should be in the 280-310 range, depending on your specific pipe's thirst, elevation, and temp. It is ~40 f here, roughly sea level, and I have a K&n + PSI pipes and I am running a 340. The only way to really tune it is trial and error. In the end, you will have a collection of jets. As far as getting the carbs off, I found it is a little more overall work, but I remove the front fenders and fuel tank. That makes it easier to get the carbs out. Also, if you replace the TORS tops, it makes getting them off easier. Quote

BenBB Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 I agree with Fox73-Zz, with your mods your mains should be 320-340 range, assuming 60-80F temps and 32:1 premix ratio. You could probably use 30 pilots as well, they are Banshee-specific and not the same as standard Mikuni pilots, the Yamaha part number is 260-14142-30. Anyway, 200's are stock mains, and are probably WAY too lean for your mods. I'd try 30 pilots, airscrews 1.5 turns out, needles one clip position leaner than stock for the ported reed cages (2nd clip position from the blunt end), and 350 mains (again assuming 60-80F, 32:1, and no airbox lid). Should be a safely rich starting point, got a bunch of stuff including an easier way (hopefully) to pull the carbs in the Jetting FAQ below (link in my sig). Good luck. Quote
CKylesworld Posted December 13, 2003 Author Report Posted December 13, 2003 WOW that link you provided is wonderful. That answered ALL my questions, now lets see if I can use my new found knowledge Christy Quote
