Stock Banshee Setup for Off-Road

AngelBM

Recommended Posts

Hello, my name is Angel I’m 24 years old and Im living in Spain.

I just get my own BANSHEEEEEEE!!! Im really excited for that, I drove it Off-Road and now I want to make it better.

Is a 50th anniversary edition but I think that first owner just changed the covers because is from 2001 so I think can’t be an OEM 50th anniversary edition.

Everything is stock, or at least this is what I think, and I want to change the carbs, exhaust, put a new thumb throttle, change the wiring because now is a mass. So I was reading on forums and this one is the BEST so I registered here to have your support with my Banshee.

I want to know your suggestions for what I have to change to have a better Off Road Banshee:

- Which Carb you think is the best for my case. I was thinking on a Keihins PWK 28, but also I read that someone put PWK33 or 35 in a stock engine so Im not sure what to choose.

- Which Exhaust and Pipe? I was looking for a Toomey T6 but I want to hear your suggestion

- Which brand is good for Thumb Throttle?

- Air Filter? K&N is good?

Tell me everything that you think is good to change. I have 3-4k to spend in my Banshee.

Thank you for your help!

Best regards and Happy New Year!

If I had that much money I would do the suspension at the same time. Here is a good kit for the money.

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Banshee-Chromoly-Alba-A-Arms-2-1-Elka-Legacy-Stage-3-Front-Rear-Shocks-Lines/182640671611?epid=12004176989&hash=item2a863b7b7b:g:T6wAAOSwTf9ZUtSu

get a harness through Kompuksive Concepts who is a site sponsor and have the parking brake, tors and anything else you do t want deleted

for a thumb throttle get a Moose or Terry Cable thumb throttle through FAST (farm and sand toys)

stock carbs are perfectly fine but if I had the money I would use 28 PWK

Pro Circuits pipes are my favourite all around pipe. They are mid range type pipe and make big horsepower. If you want low end power buy SLP, if you want all too end power buy Shearers or CPI.

for the engine I would definitely look hard at the DriveLine 392 kit. You’ll be in the 70s for horsepower.

you’ll need a better clutch with all this.

youll want better reeds also, and you’ll want a roundhouse style swingarm.

i HIGHLY recommend sending your engine to a sponsor (DriveLine, Fast, PowerlinePerformance) and have them build and dyno tune your engine.

Gusto nailed it. Suspension will make you faster and more comfortable. Terry throttle and 28mm PWK carbs (I have both used in great shape if you're interested) and pro circuit pipes. T6 will limit your power if you do any additional work in the future like porting or the Driveline kit.

As you mentioned, your bike is not an anniversary edition. Those are all yellow with a carbon fiber printed radiator cover and only made in 2006. It appears the previous owner put the graphics on a different set of plastics.

Hello Gusto and 97Screamer, thank you both for your answers.

Gusto you really helped me, now I have clear steps to follow. I just find all the things that you tell me on internet. Can you please check them with me if they are OK. I will like to do with you all this Setup and then I want to share it on the forum for others users like a tutorial. Im going to number them point by point:

1 - For the Suspension kit you sent me this one: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Banshee-Chromoly-Alba-A-Arms-2-1-Elka-Legacy-Stage-3-Front-Rear-Shocks-Lines/182640671611?epid=12004176989&hash=item2a863b7b7b:g:T6wAAOSwTf9ZUtSu If you confirm me that is a good one I will take it.

2 - The harness I just sent a message to Kompulsive Concepts, so it will be from them.

3 - For the thumb throttle I choosed the Moose, exactly this one https://www.mooseracing.com/products/?productId=114714 it is good?

4 - The carbs I will take the PWK28, this is that what I need?  https://www.motoscoot.net/carburador-keihin-pwk-28mm-compuerta-plana-cromada-original-keihin-18823.html#product_vehicles

5 - I will take the Pro Circuit Pipe, but which Silencer I have to get; the 304 or the 296?

6 - DriveLine 392 Kit, I will get that.

7 -  About the clutch, where I can find a good kit?

8 - Aboud the reeds, roundhouse, .. where I can find this?

9 - About to send the engine to DriveLine, I live in Spain, I don’t know if we can do it sending it from here to USA and then back. I can do it with my company's DHL account, it will be fast but Idk if DriveLine will accept it. What you think?

10 -  This is the last number.. I just saw that my clutch and brake levers are too ‘’used’’, they free space and they move up, down and right to left, I want to change also them completely. Where I can find?

Thank you VERY MUCH!

Waiting for your answer to start with this project!

DriveLine sells clutches and billet baskets, go through them.

pro circuit 304 silencers don’t have spark arrestors. The 296 do have them. If you require spark arrestors where you ride buy 296.

yes those are the right carbs. I recommend getting the UPP intakes and some pod style filters for the carbs. If your going to run your air box you’ll need larger carb boots. FAST sells the carbs, swingarms, reeds, intakes, filters, clutch, basket, and thumb throttle. So you can buy it all from there and only pay shipping once. DriveLine May also carry all that stuff too. Best to send them an email. Again, I recommend sending your engine into them to build, there’s a bunch of stuff that needs upgrading and to be checked.

DriveLine will accept your engine. Email BansheeHP on this site he is DriveLine.

MSR make a decent lever for the money.

The suspension kit I should have linked is this one with the long travel a arms.  Email ATVGalaxy about the suspension and mention BHQ and you might get a discount.

Thank you again sir! I will star with this.

Buy the carbs last. The stock ones will work fine till you have the motor ported. If easier, you might be able to send just the cylinders, head and pistons to the builder. It's not ideal, but might make shipping a whole lot easier. When your motor is built/ported, the builder will have a good recommendation on the proper size for the carbs. Might be 28, or might be 33, most likely 30s. Pro circuits have a lot of head room to increase the flow. I like to stay at +2 or under on the swing arm for off road, unless it's just wide open trails. Over that, and it starts having trouble turning and hooking up in the tight technical trails and woods.
