Codyshep
My 2001 banshee was running fine and all of sudden just died and would not start. Checked for spark and there was no spark at all. Figured it was a bad coil so I replaced it and started first kick. Then died again and won't start any ideas? It is tors deleted. hoppedupandcutdown
I would check the thumb on/off switch and the key switch or jumper if it has been bypassed first. Intermittent start/stop is usually something simple like that,
Codyshep
I unplugged the on/off switch but still no spark and the key switch was removed before I bought it. I couldn't find a short anywhere. Could it be cdi box?
hoppedupandcutdown
I'd check the key switch jumper. Could be the CDI, they do crazy stuff when they go bad, but I doubt it.
hoppedupandcutdown
The key wiring, the red and the red/black stripe have to be connected to run
Codyshep
Ok I will go back through and make sure they are connected together. It's just weird that I have been riding it since I bought it 3 days ago and all of a sudden it won't start now.
hoppedupandcutdown
There are literally a dozen things it could be, but start with the simple easy things first
Codyshep
Ok thank you
Keno
Get a Multi-meter. It'll make testing your switches and wires sooooo much easier. Also be sure to check your stator.
Codyshep
So I figured out that it's my wiring harness it's completely toast. Going to put new one in when it gets here. And new coil and cdi.
hoppedupandcutdown
Did you go with OEM yamaha electronics?
Codyshep
Not oem I got a ricky stator stator, bronco brand igontion coil, a ricky stator cdi box, and Ricky stator race only wiring harness. Could not afford to buy oem at this moment.
hoppedupandcutdown
Be sure to hold on to ALL your old take-off parts.
Codyshep
Ok I was thinking of doing that. But how come? Just curious
hoppedupandcutdown
The general consensus around here is all that stuff is crap.
