Dsavage62
Inside the case under the trans right about even with the sprocket looks like the cases took a shot from the chain Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
locogato11283
Do they leak oil?
trickedcarbine
$2-300 for a clean used set could save you a shit load of agony in the future. It's already apart.
registered user
do u have a photo of it. sounds like its on the case top and not into the bearing bore or anything like that. u can drill a hole at ends of the crack then grind out the crack and weld it. just take it to someone with experience Edited January 15, 2018 by registered user

Toybreaker
if it has leaked through the crack you are pretty much fucked. Aluminum is very porous. the gear lube will have penetrated into the pores of the crack and will contaminate any attempts at welding it. 2 options for weld repair, bake it an oven for a LONG time to get the oil out or stop drill the ends of the crack and excavate out past the contaminated metal and fill the gap. Or clean it Psycho OCD clean then soak the effected area in a strong solvent for a few hours and attempt another epoxy metal repair (JB Weld type stuff, I use ENECON products) if it is prepped properly these types of repairs work well. We use this stuff to fix sealing surfaces on all kinds of high pressure equipment.
registered user
oil on the crack wont make 2 fuks of difference to a pro welder. he would have full knowledge how to prep the weld area.
Toybreaker
Those instructions were not for a pro welder. for the garage mecha nik with a tig welding setup that thinks he can weld

sleeper06
After the preparation suggestions above I usually take a porting tool and wedge the groove. For some reason every time I weld these shit cases, it works best with the tungsten almost even with the cup . Once you start to get new material in there your contamination should rise to the top and then you can make it pretty. Pre heating helps. I'm not a pro welder by any means but I've repaired quite a few of these with no problem. Your welder also might act differently . Do you have a cooler on your tig?
