Durch
So I accidentally started this project today. It was supposed to be my winter project but the clutch ball welded on me last night sooo... why not start early. I’m going to take it to get powder coated soon and want to make sure there is nothing else I need to do with the frame before hand (i.e. reinforce certain areas or remove unnecessary tabs or anything). This is a trail build (hare scramble) so I won’t be doing drags or MX with it. I think I’m going to keep the standard a-arms to keep it narrow enough for trails unless someone can convince me otherwise. Probably a 4 mil stroker with some sort of trail/play port, is like to keep it on pump gas. Let me know your ideas. This is not a budget build but I don’t want the cost to get outrageous. JTmachining
Stock frame needs to have sections cut out and chromoly added
Durch
Besides the subframe where else might it need chromoly. In addition to grinding off unnecessary tabs is gusseting worth doing? I know I will be reinforcing the steering stop anywhere else? Again this is just a trail build, not a drag or dune runner, it won’t get beat on too much but I want it to be durable.
JTmachining
Peeps FFS. Think about dynamic loads if u gona do fab work. Upper steering stem mount area is one of the weakest locations on frame. Start there
Durch
Got most of it back from powder coat.

trickedcarbine
You may wanna pump your brakes and get some extra support on the steering stem hoop. Especially now that you are running a longer stem and monster riser.
SandSlingerOR
Looks dang good. U thinking of dumping that hunk of junk swing arm? I had nothing but problems with the stocker in the woods. Fireball makes a killer swing arm, then a jj&a bearing carrier.
gusto
Sorry for the slight de rail but does anyone know if reinforcing the steering hoop will effect the fitment of a desert tank? I als have a +2 stem I am installing and I’m in the teardown process.
kawa110
^^^depends on where the gussets and or reinforcing is placed. Have the tank with the frame so whoever fabs it can ensure fitment

Fireball makes a killer swing arm, then a jj&a bearing carrier.I’m think I’m going to use the stock swing arm for now and see what kind of problems I have. This is just a build for groomed trails, ditches and backroads. But I might get bored enough to upgrade it later!
Durch
You may wanna pump your brakes and get some extra support on the steering stem hoop. Especially now that you are running a longer stem and monster riser. Where should the extra support be added. I asked about that a while ago and I got some bullsh*t response with no real answer. Maybe you could elaborate on where to add support so I can make changes before I get too much further.
locogato11283
Too late to add supports now with the frame powdercoated. Just don't roll the bike and you'll be fine. Black looks good. And buy a real fucking swingarm.. That stock junk can cause major issues.
