Lock up clutch

Ok so I just got my banshee back from my builder and the clutch is slipping pretty bad. It is a ported 4 mill with 3 super stiff clutch springs and 3 stiff ones. Clutch plates appear to have plenty of life left.

Is this pretty typical for a pump gas motor? At what HP level is a lockout usually needed?

Id say 80 hp and above needs a lock up. I've got a 4m aggressive dune port on pump gas and I run a lockup.

Yes, Brently Gorman is Dunetoyz.

Mine 4m stock cyl on pump gas made 78 hp on the dyno at little Sahara years ago. It was ported by HJR and runs pretty darn good for what it is. I put the lock up in it when I had problems holding the clutch.

I went from a mild ported stock cyl, stock carbs with T5 to a clean ported driveline 421, 35mm setup with snipers pipes. So we can say maybe from a 50hp to a 75-80hp engine.

The clutch was all stock and was doing good in the first setup, but was sliping badly on the other setup. I putted a driveline lockup and everything is fine now.

I like my combo DL lockup and standard springs. If you put HD springs with no lockup, the clutch lever will be always hard. If you put lockup with standard springs, the clutch lever will be hard only at high rpm.

Do you have your tranny modded?
