Nick.H
I'm sure there's a million other threads about this, but I bought a 1993 banshee yesterday. Has a pro design cooling head, fmf pipes, k&n kit. Rode it twice, parked it, came out 20 minutes later and it pissed out all the oil. Looks like it's coming from near the front sprocket. I know if it's the seal behind there, I have to split the case to fix it. My questions are: 1: is there a fix without splitting the case? 2: if not, how much am I likely to spend at the shop? Don't have time or tools to get it done myself right now. Thanks, Nick
hicksons
There wasn't chain slab and cracked the case rite? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Nothing unusual I can see. I'm not exactly familiar with these terms yet. I've only ever worked on cars specifically SBC's. There's a pool of oil under the chain on the frame no the case is not cracked that I can see. Looks fine Edited August 1, 2017 by Nick.H
hicksons
I would take off the chain and sprocket clean it all up and see because you don't want to get that work done and it be a hairline crack in the case my Brotha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ginger
Is it trans oil, or is it fuel? If the carbs overflow there is a drain in the middle of the cases
hoppedupandcutdown
you don't have to split the case to replace the seal behind the sprocket. also look at the shift shaft seal below it, It can be replaced from the outside too

Or does that sound worse?
hoppedupandcutdown
If it fell out, yes. If it did, check that your case vent is clear.
Nick.H
What exactly would that seal be called? Sorry major n00b here
hoppedupandcutdown
There are 5 possible things to leak in that side of the case 1 -shift shaft seal 2 -Trans output (countershaft) seal 3 -neutral switch o-ring 4 -shift fork bar plugs (2 of those) Degrease, clean, dry and inspect. Nick.H
Thanks, and which was the one you were referring to?{the one(s) doable from the outside} Or at least your best guess.
hoppedupandcutdown
They are all doable from the outside. IIRC the shift shaft seal is the lowest one, it would dump the most oil. A quart and a half leaves an awful large puddle.
