Johnsond207
Okay guys I want to make sure I tell the whole story so I'm sorry if this is a little drawn out. A couple weeks ago I picked up my first banshee on trade. I was told it was a 2001 and it was not running because it needed carb work and new plugs. Well I got it home and checked the vin and its not legible so i did some research and found out its between a 1990 and 1994. It has upper a arms and round connectors. Great. Next I opened the carbs they were spotless inside and out. So I put new plugs in it put the carbs back on. Wouldnt start. Checked for spark, none. Ohm'd stator tested good ohm'd coil tested good. Cleaned grounds. Sanded flywheel and stator connections. Pickup coil gapped and cleaned. So once I was sure all the components were good I opened up the wire harness and I did find some melted wires. So I soldered them and resealed them they all had continuity. Checked every wire and they all checked out. The key switch is bypassed and I tried reconnecting it. At this point I have seen a few sparks here and there but nothing consistant. So I figured I'd try a known working coil from a buddy's bike and it had spark. It ran for a minute but i couldn't shut it off because the kill switch didn't seem to work and key was bypassed. So I was ecstatic I put everything back together and went to ride it and it wouldn't start again. No spark. This is when the swears come out. Rechecked all my connections and wires everything checks out. Put the coil back on the other bike runs perfect. So I figured the only thing I can do now is get a cdi so I have a used one off ebay that says it came off a running unit. Yesterday while im waiting on it I got fiddling with it again and it would spark if I tugged on the harness that goes to the handlebar controlls. So I opened that up and noticed the black/ white and solid black wires had been reattached but the connection was good. I tried it with them unconnected then i twisted them together and it sparked once. I should also mention I have a drill with a socket on the flywheel to turn the motor over. I can only get this thing to spark if I have someone turn the motor over and I continually touch the black/white and black wires together. I just don't know what to think of this. Do you guys think the cdI could be causing this? Or am I missing something.. I can get pics of stuff to clarify. Thanks! ginger
did you try a new switch assembly on the handle bars? it could be grounding out in there.

I was thinking that but I noticed when you turn the switch to off it makes a connection between the black/white and black wires so if you just unhooked them wouldn't that bypass it? ginger
if you buddy has one i would try it for shits and giggles, as when you tug on it it does change something.

Only problem is his is newer so connectors are different my life would be so much easier if they were the same I could try the cdi without having to buy one. Do you think it could be grounding out inside the cdi somewhere? Because I checked that black white wire and it looks good all the way back into the cdi. I just don't know what to think at this point.
rjdgriff
Get ahold of Cory Kennedy and have him send you some adapters and you can use your buddies stuff. Or just bypass all the switches and hard wire it allGiving away "TSS" for FREE!!!

By disconnecting the black/white and black wires correct?
sleeper06
Make sure blk/white is clear all the way back to cdi as some other safety switches can be tied into it. Permanently attach a ground to the red wire that used to go to key switch . It will run like this. Take plug off cdi check blk/White for continuity with any other wire it should be clear, then test the red and you should get continuity to the black that's it.. make sure pick up gaps are at .
