My first build

Recommended Posts

So I just bought a 99 banshee had it 3 days and boom seized up crank bearing and had a lose plug so I want to build a fast trail bike that I can still drag around what kind of options do I have and I want to have neutral down I want reliable but I want a fast bike I wouldn't mind losing some reliability over power...lol

Have you set yourself a budget? Can get out of hand in a hurry. I would start there then check out site sponsors. There are many options. What set up for carbs and exhaust are you running now.

i would say a stock cylinder 4 mil stroker is what i would build. similar to what i have,  the 4 mil will give you more power everywhere.  get a MX port, as it will let you keep the bottom end for the trails, and still bring the top end power.

should be able to do that for under 3k.  only thing i dont know about is the trans, but thats because override i dont think is suggest for trails if i remember correctly.

mine are pretty open on my farm.  i love the feel of a bike with a lot of bottom and mid range,  that instant power.  That's why i built mine the way i did.  Figure worst case if i can top it out too fast, i can always change gearing.

I also never go to the dunes, as there isn't any around here.

4 mil with whatever port you desire. Carbs and pods. A good set of pipes and a pro mod trans. Pro circuits will keep your power down and bring it in low. They aren't a bad pipe just not sure if that's what your looking for? Everyone rides trails different and different power bands are desired

I have yet to fire mine up from frame up rebuild.
There are no performance shop around me up here so all of my part I bought through site sponsors.
I went for reliability over crazy performance as I ride a lone most time out in the sticks.
Take a look at my rebuild thread for parts and upgrades. I'm close to 5k with the build buts that's Canadian, so pretty sure you can do a lot with 3k USD

Pc s are great pipes. They pull on the top as well. But they still will hinder you a bit in the power. I'd recommend cpi s next, excellent pipe. They pull in the top and still have some low end to play around on. Honestly everything on the banshee that is stock parts is junk. So you may end blowing past your $3k budget replacing everything lol.

421 from Driveline or a 421 Serval. Have it ported for midrange/dune type riding. It'll have a bit of down low, and still rev pretty nice up top, and beat your typical bolt on machine in a drag race.

Call Joe Molinari for a N down pro mod trans.

Here, here on blowing past your budget. But still happy so that's all that matters.
I would try to do an inspection of entire motor first before purchasing anything. I wish I had done so. I ended up having to replace clutch which I really didn't think of at the start of the build.
But there is tons of info on this forum. This was my first banshee and first rebuild after owning it for a few months. The ppl on here and reading through past post really help along with a Clymers manual.
