Flywheel rubbing stator plate

Recommended Posts

Long story short here, fresh top and bottom done by reputable shop, lost spark and found flywheel to be rubbing against the stator plate, on the tab above adjusting marks, and damaged the pickup. The bolts where all secure, nothing foreign and no play on shaft. The stator was replaced, but its the same flywheel, I carefully reinstalled the new parts, amd it is doing the same thing. I havent even tightened nut and I can see it will happen again. Wtf am I doing wrong, other than not buying oem stator/flywheel? Cripes, I just want to go fast.

Without seeing it and seeing what you're doing, nobody can tell you what is wrong.

Based on what you've posted it is either:

1. Bent crank shaft

2. Bent flywheel

3. I correctly mounted stator plate

4. Incorrectly installed flywheel and/or key

It ended up being the flywheel damaged. wasnt visible to eye, but I threw a spare my brother had on there, and it fit, and she runs. It was a rmstator setup, I know, not the best quality, I see now its cheaper in the end to get the qualty parts  you need. And yes, there certainly was an audible pop yesterday, of my head being pulled out of my ass, when this all came together. Im the maverick mechanic, I learn as I go, sometimes the hard way,  theres no such thing as a comfort zone. Thanks for the help, Im sure I will be back.
