Billet Case

I have come across some threads on this but all are several years old...

What are the Pro's and cons of these? Appears Matton is the only one making them. I know they are expensive.... worth it if in budget or just a waste?

Also, is a crankworks billet crank worth the extra dough over just welded and trued?

Billet cases are for big drag motors only. What are you building?

Billet cases are needed when they are. Cons are they cost money and they weigh more than stock. Pros, when you need them, you need them.

I was under the impression that they are lighter ? I definitely don't want to add a lot of weight to my bike.

Not building a drag specific bike... just trying to build a bullet proof motor.

If it gives you any idea, I'm running a standard length swinger.

Stick with OEM. The cases aren't a weak link for what you're building.

I will say it. There is a thing as too much power. Maybe not in the dunes, but in some trails it can be. When I rode tyler's 421 that made like mid 90s and it was a handful in the trails, but fun.

Was that a cub? Would a 90 HP super serv be too much? All I have to compare it to is my 421 1/2 smerv. I have rode a 10 serv on the coal his and it felt nice.

You should figure out what you want to do with the motor build then these guys can give you an idea on what's recommended for that build. I wouldn't go with anything less than a 10 mil. Would a 4 mil work? Yeah but I don't ever hear anyone riding a banshee say it has too much power.

I hear what you are saying, but I'm trying to figure out what I want. All purpose bike, trails, MX, and one day dunes. I'm not afraid of too much power, it's all about the power band.

Didn't you send your motor to duncan?

Your far from needing billet anything

Have not decided on an engine builder or specifics of the engine build... that's why I'm collecting info. The builder will have nothing to do with what components I use.

Well thats kind of dumb to do if you ask me as everything kind of works with each other to make a good running motor.. unless you got money burning a hole in your pocket... then proceed

I am confused on what you are suggesting.

I started this thread to get information about components, not builders.

Once I decide what components and type of motor I want, then I will select a builder who I feel can put it together the best.
