Derpy Drifter
What size carburetors would you guys recommend for a motor with only FMF pipes on it? I'm mostly looking for low-mid range torque and grunt but I don't want to give up all of my high range power either. Something pretty well rounded, good for trail riding and some light occasional drag racing. I'll be going with VForce 4 reeds and pod filters, and switching to a DMC Alien exhaust all at the same time. Possibly a 421 kit in the somewhat near future too. Derpy Drifter
Stay stock carbs... when you go to 421 got to either 33's-35's Alright, just trying to gather some more opinions before I make my decision. It seems that some people can put 35s on a stock motor and gain a lot of power, and some people say you'll lose power. And then there's the few people who say go with a large single carb. Guy at my work, steven, is like a master engine tuner. He told me about the 03 banshee he had a few years ago, with vforce reeds, a big single carb, and toomey pipes, that would run with and sometimes beat the 392-465cc guys unless their quads were tuned perfectly. Everyone seems to have different experiences with these things and everyone's way is the best
STRIBZ
There is absolutely no need for those large carbs on a stock motor.. Hell im running a 421 with stock carbs just fine. but when the funds allow it ill be going to 33's. big single will be fine on a STOCK motor in woods and trails... they just can't feed it in open areas (dunes). Derpy Drifter
How big of a single carb would be good? 38-41mm? I don't do any dune riding now or forsee myself doing any for a long time if ever. I'm more of a woods/trail guy myself, but a couple few times a year I would be doing a gravely/sand type surface drag race event(400 feet I think? definitely less than 1/8th mile)
STRIBZ
I wouldn't recommend it.. guy i ride with HAD a single 35, was very snappy and great throttle response but that was it.. now back to running dual carbs Edited November 28, 2016 by STRIBZ
Derpy Drifter
Well, if I don't need to go with bigger carbs, what can I do to get some more power(mainly low-mid range, my high end is nuts as it is lol) WITHOUT spending a boat load of money? I've heard that boost bottles are a joke. Porting stock cylinders? Milling head? Also I want to stay on 91-93 pump gas since I can't get any higher octane race fuel locally. STRIBZ
compression and timing will get you more low-mid.. Porting is the best bang for buck.. Just remember with these, "where you gain in one area you lose in another"
Derpy Drifter
Alright, I don't really understand timing plates, however, I do know how to do porting myself and there is a local shop that I think could mill my head down for me. sheerider11
Not to fuck up this guy's sale, but you don't need those. Porting is best left to the pros if you want power. Stock carbs will make plenty of power. You need to look into other areas

I mean, I know for sure I wouldn't lose any power.
