promod80
I just bought a 2002 banshee and i love it. My buddies wanted me to get a Raptor or a Z400 but i wanted a 2 stroke. Here is my question. My banshee is all stock. I was going down the road the other day and it was smokin pretty bad, it was blue smoke. I have the fuel mixed 28 to 1. It still gets up and goes pretty good but it doesn't feel like it has the top end that it should have. I raced my buddy on his stock raptor and he beat me pretty bad! Is a stock raptor faster than a stock banshee? thanks...any help would be great
ROOFCOCK
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR RINGS ARE GONE. USUALLY BLUE SMOKE IS AN INDICATION OF BURNING OIL
promod80
that's what i thought but i wanted to ask and make sure. Since they are gone i am thinking about having it bored .20 over new pipes, jettted, boost bottle, and a cool head. Do you think that would be a good start on performance? erbilabuc
that's what i thought but i wanted to ask and make sure. Since they are gone i am thinking about having it bored .20 over new pipes, jettted, boost bottle, and a cool head. Do you think that would be a good start on performance? crack open, take pitures of the inside and we can go from there. When you blow rings the performance is terrible so I dont know if you did that or not. Maybe one of your plugs fouls out at certain RPM's(mine did it too)
txblueshee
WAIT!! Blue smoke is normal... try a FRESH set of plugs and lean out your mix to at least 32:1. Make sure your carbs are synced also, if that don't clear it up then do a compression check. Mike
promod80
i am gonna do a compression check tomarrow. So is it normal for a raptor to beat up on a banshee? Also.....what did u mean about the carbs? thanks
txblueshee
Take your filter off.... you see the big silver screws on the back of the carbs(on the tors). Well they control your slides on your carbs, if the slide are even (look into your intake at the metal "slides" inside the carbs). Then your carbs are synced, your COMPRESSION should be at least 120psi and if it's not, it's rebuild time. Mike
SDD
Roofcock blue smoke is toasted rings on a 4 stroke. Two strokes burn oil remember...
Demon350
my shee used to do the exact same when it was stock, i wuld have had 2 show u pics of the smoke 2 believe it it was that bad, i cudnt see behind me or anything, after T6pipes, rejetting and changing my oil to fully synthetic, no problems at all, peace
promod80
well i did the compression test....the right side was at 116 and the left was at 119. Guess i'll have to find out where i can get it re ringed huh...thanks again
txblueshee
Do a google search on your elevation... chances are a hone job and some fresh pistons would do wonders though. Mike
wheeleymaster99
yeah of a stock raptor beat you somethings wrong
wesw
that compression for a stock bike really isnt bad depends on what elevation. i would defiently run oil at 32:1 also is the bike warmed up or after you start it and let it idle. if you get it warmed up adn are cobbing on it and smoking i would start looking at stuff like jetting and whatnot
fel0n
Well stock Banshees and Raptors are usually a quad length or so away from each other in a drag race. So if he beat you pretty bad then you have a problem.
promod80
Well....i can ride it for an hour and it will still smoke blue and smell like burning oil. I don't know what the elevation is around here....but i live in Southern Indiana. I called today about .20 over bore, new rings and pistons so i will get that done after christmas!
