Shee_Rookie
I have a buddy that says that if you haven't did your top end or at least your rings in more than two years, there is a good chance that you will blow your engine. Is this true? I have a 2000 shee that I bought used and i am not sure if that was done previously or not and I am seriously thinking about this. Can I do a compression check or something that will tell me what kind of shape my rings are in or should I just get a complete kit and do it all? X-mas is coming and that's something to ask for, right !!
boonman
You can do a compression check to see what's up. If there is a difference of more than 5PSI between the cylinders, than it is time for a rebuild. If you are below 100 PSI on a stock bike, than it is time. I would hold off on the rebuild kit for christmas untill you find out what bore your cylinders are at....
Toomey Banshee
I have a 99 that I bought new. Same top end, compression is still good.
National Banshee
Cylinder compression wont tell you everything you need to know. Piston to cylinder clearance will determine whether or not you need a rebore. Most 2 strokes today will run just fine untill the piston breaks. Depending on how the air filter was maintained, most engines will go 2 years of hard running. Some only make it 1 month. Air fiter maintenance, premix type and ratio, and engine warm up will dictate how long yours will last. If you think its time, tear it down and measure the clearance. I'm sure we all know someone who has broken the skirt off the piston and punched it throughh the cases!!!!!!!!!
