johngolfvr6
hey guys im a little pissed i just bought my banshee i knew it dident run to good so i rebuilt it and board it out because i noticed scores on the piston, so anyway i put it all back together, started it up and my rad started steiming its not dirty either, i cleand it with water when it was apart its spotless, it looks to me like its overheating??? I had my crankcase apart 2 at the same time and my waterpump turned good?? does anyone know what this could be
raxen
Can you be more specific. What location on the radiator is the steam coming from: a weld, stem, or cap? Did you measure the head, exhaust, and coolant temperature? I had an older stock radiator that steam at the welded joint around the cap stem. I finally spent the dough on a PWR radiator off of Ebay. Also, if you are ever in the clutch cover again, it is wise to replace the stock impeller for a nicer aftermarket unit that dowsn't flex under load like the stock unit. A quick check to see if that is a need is to run a leak check on your cooling system. Check all of your lines also to check for any blockages that may have formed. johngolfvr6
all I did was started it for like not even a minute, i just filled everthing up so it was fresh antifreeze, The whole rad was steiming all over, I think I better open up the water pump and check to see if there is anything left of my impeller

fixitrod
Did you put any of the hoses on backwards. Maybe it's blowing backward or the rad cap is bad.
johngolfvr6
I woke up today thinking about the rad hoses being on wrong 2, But the one is shorter then the other so there is no way it could be wrong, But with the rad cap why would it make it steim
fixitrod
I just thought of something...duhhhh. You probably have a leak in the head gasket. The compression is making it into the coolant system and forcing the coolant out. It steams when it hits the pipes. A bad rad cap will let the coolant overflow with very little pressure, but you'd see the coolant bottle filling up first. Where do you see the steam? johngolfvr6
it did it befour I rebuilt it 2, and now it has all new head gaskets???? this is a real head scratcher thats driving me nuts, I wana go start it to find out whats going on but im afraid of it blowing, do u think its possible that crap is still burning off from when it was dirty

Where is the steam coming from? You need to be more specific on the trouble. I assumed it was spitting coolant and obvious. If you think it's just burning old stuff then you don't see coolant????? Please, be more specific.
johngolfvr6
its not spitting coolent, iv never driven it yet and steam is just comming from the rad
johngolfvr6
I dont wana ride it yet with a fresh motor if it is overheating, Id cry if the motor blew LOL
fixitrod
If it's just steaming from the rad you probably spilled something on it when doing the rebuild or like you said, got something on it when riding. Just check that there are no holes in the rad while it's running. Mine smoked for 20min burning all the stuff off that I got on the motor, pipes, and everything. ***EDIT*** Just curious, (noting to do with this trouble) did you check the ring gap when you put your pistons in. It's something a lot of people don't do.
