Dm cylinders , and why they require porting.

Recommended Posts

Just looking for some knowledge. I also would like to know what exactly the cooling problem is with them.

Water jackets to small for such a large bore?

You port almost all new cylinders because of casting flaws and to get optimal performance.

Almost no one bores the water jackets out because they're a drag cylinder

To answer your question, yes.

I'm aware of the porting for performance. Maybe I should've asked if they could be ran as cast. Seems a drag cylinder set up should run right out of the box.

You ran a 4mil dm? Was it worth it versus other motors you have ran?

I see where ur going with this. DM is not a newb cyl. Cast as is cyls "work" but when u spend big money on a cyl that's set up for a builder to port their magic it would be dumb to leave as cast

Exactly what I wanted to know. They are cast conservative just for that purpose. Thanks JT.

DM is not a cylinder that you want to run straight from casting.

Can you? Sure.

Should you? Fuck no.

DMs require more work, unlike their Cub and Serval counterparts that are cast much closer to final run specs.

On top of that, dome is very important in these.

I have a lot of experience with these things and I can safely tell you that if you have a budget you don't want one.
