it all depends on how it was set up at the dealers.if the jetting is correct now ,then 2 sizes up sounds good+adjust the fuel mixture screw.assuming no other mods or changes.i'm from the northeast at see level+my z came stock with a 130 main jet.to optimise her gift i would also get a dyno-jet kit .part #o312 comes with needles,a good assortment of jets,+good instructions so you can really dial it in.

my bike had a 130 in it and i'm at about 850 ft above sea level and i yanked the lid and added a 155 along with my k&n i also have a yosh slip on as well tho so you may need another size but go ahead a ditch the lid while you at it nice lil increase in power. jmo.

did you notice more power from the filter or the exhaust. probably put them on together i was wondering.

first mods to virgin z went like this.pro design billet adpt.k+n with outer ware,pro-c t4 slip on,dyno-jet needles+main 146,3 clip from the blunt end, mixture 3 1/2 turns out.removed snorkel, lid on.gains were obvious, crisper throtel responce+broader power!remove the snorkel get the filter kit,up the jet,+you should notice a slight increase in power,it can only help.
