xjmav
Having top end issues. Bike starts great runs great sounds great. Has no top end feels like it just hits a wall and falls on its face. Was running amazing last year on 300 mains and 27.5 pilots needle on second clip from top. Running 6000-9000 ft typically. Replaced coil and plug wires. Played with jets from 290 all the way to 190 and never got better Carbs in sync, tors deleted, did leak down test and all good. What do I check from here? I know I have lower compression, 90L 92R. Resistance on stator checks out. Haven't had a chance to swap CDI yet it's a 96 all the other shees we have are 97up or pre 95 18cc domes on a cool head, +4 timing, toomey t5 pipes, boyseen dual stage reeds, k&n pods, welded and trued crank, NOT ported yet. Will be ported and a fresh top end this year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
hoppedupandcutdown
carb slides in right?
xjmav
Yes, and verified multiple times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
hoppedupandcutdown
I don't know with your altitude, but 18cc domes that sounds like super low compression.
hoppedupandcutdown
But I'll tell ya, I've been having top end bog problems lately with my K&N pod filters being dirty or over oiled.
xjmav
I believe I should be closer to 120- 130 . I know it's time for a top end but it was like a light switch. I was t boned and then it ran like crap. Won't get on the pipe and bogs at top end. Runs amazing getting there. I'm still suspicious of a weak stator, was warming up checking heads with my hand and it shocked the hell out of me on the left jug. Stripped and repaired all the plug wires and caps. Have a whiteish spark on the left jug didn't check the right jug. The 300 mains were at about 6000 ft, it ran its best at 9000 ft with 280s but at the top end sounded almost like a revlimiter was kicking in. Just flat stopped pulling. Then it was like someone was turning a switch on off on off. Power no power Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
xjmav
Ran the same way with a brand new toomey 2 to 1 filter like new out of the box Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
hoppedupandcutdown
A buddys did that, he had a pick up coil wire down to about 3 strands left. Had it on a dyno and just stopped pulling at 5500rpm, like a rev limiter.
sleeper06
Harness pinched from accident, blown clutch, leave the jets alone if it ran fine before it doesn't magically need diffrent jets. Have you put an ohm meter to any wires or components
Larry's Shee
but it was like a light switch. I was t boned and then it ran like crap. Won't get on the pipe and bogs at top end. Ibut at the top end sounded almost like a revlimiter was kicking in. It's great when important clues are left out in the beginning. Is TORS still hooked up? I see no mention of checking float height. Is it possible To borrow the complete electrical off one of the other bikes? Or you might be able to get Compulsive to make you an adapter plug. What about parking brake limiter? Also try bypassing both switches. Explain how you thought it would be jetting?
xjmav
I cut and eliminated tors and parking brake. Years ago. Float height was set last ride, I suppose it wouldn't be bad to check again. My uncle has been building banshees for years said it acts like a rich condition and that's the basis of the jet changes. 3000 ft elevation change from last riding location, went down 2 jets. I have the new style CDI plug and a new stator to harness plug on the way. The stator plug melted the clip together from the accident. Wasn't shorting though. Pulled wire harness out and pin to pin everything. All wires check out and nothing shorting to another wire. Once I change/ fix plugs I'll be able to swap electrical components. hoppedupandcutdown
I'm going with pinched wire - broken inside the insulation. It will still ohm test good, but not carry a load.
xjmav
What about stator? Can it weaken on the top end even if resistance checks out? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
xjmav
Ignition coil was at 17.8, pickup was at 117 and lighting was at .6 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
