bluebanshee98
I'm looking forward to seeing both the carbs and pipes difference. I may be building a 4mm serval for my beater spare bike
Strm Trpr
It'll be late summer before we know. I've got two big rides coming up. Memorial Day weekend and the week of 4th of July. Cameron will have a cylinder ported and ready to go. I'll ship my motor and all he has to do is do the ProMod and assemble it. Need it back at least a two weeks before Labor Day weekend. Dunatic619
Why go serval and not DL new cylinders? Either way you can't go wrong. Just curious why you chose serval.
Strm Trpr
Changed my mind. They're too new and I haven't seen much about them.
Strm Trpr
So my plans are to get Cameron my motor by July 12th. In your opinion, should a motor of this caliber have straight cut drive gears? Regardless, there'll be a billet basket, Redline clutch w/light springs and a Driveline Slingshot Lock Out under the stock clutch cover. Unless Jerry at Chariot releases his billet clutch covers by then. Trans will be ProMod'd. Dyno day sometime in early August will be as follows: 91 octane w/sea level domes Bored RB Designs stock carbs w/K&N pods Modded stock intakes w/cross-over VF4's + timing CPIs vs Snipers In the next corner we have the following: 91 octane w/sea level domes Keihin 33mm PWK's w/K&N pods UPP intakes w/cross-over VF4's + timing CPIs vs Snipers Should be very interesting. My money is on the CPIs and the 33's for an all around better curve. Snipers and 33's will probably throw down a bigger number, but we'll see. If the difference up the face of the curve is within 2 hp but +8-10 up top with more over rev, then I'm gonna go with the Snipers.
LaegerEliminator
Are you planning to ride mostly sand with this motor? What size tires?
Strm Trpr
Only Sand!! Thinking 21-12-8 on a 8x8 DWT A5 black rim w/8 paddle skat trak edges. Or 21-12-10 on a 10x10 DWT A5 black rim w/STU sand skate 9 paddle play cut. ^^^ This was recommend by a guy at STU.

When you head to St. Anthony, I would recommend coming prepared with some lower gearing, for sure a 14t front. I'd be prepared to adjust the rear too. Those dunes are big and TALL. Plus the 5,000 ft elevation will make a difference as well.
Strm Trpr
Fo Sho!! Thanks for the heads up. More than likely I'll run 14/41 with 21" tires.
Strm Trpr
Do you have any recommendations for paddles? I've never ridden a straight paddle aggressively sliding in sand. I've heard when sliding hard, you reach a certain angle and the bike just slips right out from under you, is that true?

I've heard when sliding hard, you reach a certain angle and the bike just slips right out from under you, is that true? I've never run a set of straights either. I've run Skat Trak Edges, two different sets, Sand Skates and Sand Stars. I currently have 10 paddle Edges and 8 paddle Sand Stars. I found the Sand Star rears work better for me at St. Anthony then the Edges. The sand at St Anthony is relatively coarse and more responsive then the fine, soft sand in OR. My Edges do better in the OR sand. I have not been to Glamis yet. I found that my Mohawk fronts work better for me at St. Anthony. I also have Sand Star fronts. I found the Sand Star fronts are way too responsive in the St. Anthony sand, but they work really well in the OR sand. I run lower gearing at St. Anthony then in OR.
Strm Trpr
Damn, that's complicated. I mean how different is it? Do you get stuck easier with one paddle or the other? Do you think the 10 paddles edges bite too hard in St A's and rob too much power?
LaegerEliminator
Damn, that's complicated. I mean how different is it? Do you get stuck easier with one paddle or the other? Do you think the 10 paddles edges bite too hard in St A's and rob too much power? My shortest answer is that the coarse St. Anthony sand just doesn't need as much paddle in the rear or as much front tire to perform when compared to the soft, fine OR sand. I do feel like the 10 Edges take additional power to turn, and they are just more responsive to the sand. They definitely grab harder. I found they would not break lose and let me do high speed power slides very easily. The Sand Stars for me simply react better and I can power slide them at speed comfortably. I almost flipped over the first time I did a high speed hard turn at St. Anthony with my Sand Star fronts. The dual ribs there turn like your on rail road tracks, almost too responsive. The Mohawks work better for me there. Go to OR sand and the Mohawks just push when you turn. The dual rib Sand Stars work really well in the soft sand. Nice performance and response. sheerider11
Yes straight cuts. No doubt about it.
