Craig B
I have some play in the steering stem [about 1/8 in.] You can move the handle bars forward & back. I bought a used steering stem clamp and am thinking if this is worn some it may be causing the extra play. Does the seal take away any of this play or is that just to keep dirt and water out?? Thanks. Edited March 26, 2016 by Craig B
hoppedupandcutdown
The seals aren't very big at all, barely bigger than the notch they fit in. I'd say the clamp is worn.

Surfrjag
You can also sand down where the 2 pieces meet and it will tighten up on the stem.
