Shifting problem

Recommended Posts

Ok so I was riding my bike after I put the motor together(got it in pieces). I was in 3rd and I had nothing...I noticed after I pulled the clutch cover off that the denten wouldn't got down to first.. So do I have a bad drum or forks? The trans looks good no missing teeth and the dogs look good still square.. Any input?

Bent shift shaft maybe. If this motor is still split in half, put cases together and spin output shaft as you shift thru the gears. As hooped up said

Ok well I'll try that jd kinda looks like the shift claw won't hit star all the way..

That happens with no clutch cover on. The cover has a spot on it that holds the shift shaft tight

Ahh I see well if I hold the shaft and shift thru the gears with no trans in it works fine...but when I put the trans in it won't shift past 2nd...bad fork maybe?

Take the shift star stopper off, put the transmission back in and you should be able to go through all the gears pretty smoothly. If it hangs up while doing this then the offending part should be easy to spot. With both tranny shafts removed, the drum and the forks should all move freely
