Fat 1 1/8'' bars or standard 7/8''?

A few questions here to filter my choices on bar setups. I'll be running a +2+1 roll stem, pro taper bars, black ASV F3 shorty levers.

1. Fat 1 1/8" bars or standard 7/8"? Are those the only two sizes?

2. Clamps?

3. Why do peeps run crossbar? Why do they not run it?

4. How do you select the best accommodating bend? I've read low bends work well for jumping.

5. I don't think this is extremely significant, tell me if I'm wrong, but what grips are desirable?

6. Also looking into hand guards, so any input on those would be great as well.

I did some research into google. Typed in bansheehq handlebars and ect. Couldn't discover a thread that covered all of these points. Thank you.

Another one now that I'm thinking about it, twist or thumb?

1.) Yes those are the only two sizes that are offered when choosing handlebars. Remember, if you buy 1 1/8" bars, you are going to need to order bar adapter's as well.

2.) I run mattoon machine bar clamps but there are a lot of other choices on the market. JDS customs may be a good place to go look for some.

3.) Peeps that run a crossbar are probably trail riding or mx'ing. They run the cross bar just in case they eat shit, they have a little bit insurance. I personally throw them in the trash because I don't like the look of the bulky thing AND I mostly drag race.

4.) I closed my eyes and selected a bend when I ordered my pro-taper bars. I was like you, I didn't have a clue as to what bend I wanted. I chose the CR-High bend. When I mounted them they were too high for my liking so I rolled them down a little bit.

5.) I really like the ODI grips. You don't have to fuck with grip glue, tape or hairspray. You get quite a few different choices of different patterns. They slide right over the bars, lock down the allen head screw and go.

6.) I don't run hand guards, never have. If you XC, MX or trail ride I think they would benefit you though.

1. Fat 1 1/8" bars or standard 7/8"? Are those the only two sizes? Fat bar FTW

2. Clamps? Don't buy adapters, buy an antivibe stem for fat bars

3. Why do peeps run crossbar? Why do they not run it? It is for the crossbar pad, but you don't need it as many bar now have a pad on the clamp, my pro tapers did.

4. How do you select the best accommodating bend? I've read low bends work well for jumping. It depends on many things. How tall are you, how long is your stem over stock, how do you like your a-arms, etc.

5. I don't think this is extremely significant, tell me if I'm wrong, but what grips are desirable? ODI locking grips are great.

6. Also looking into hand guards, so any input on those would be great as well. Might not have the room for them, just wear good glove with padding on the fingers.

I like thumb on quads and twist on a bike. But again, it is up to which you like more.

I run protaper 1 1/8 mid bend and i like them. they've taken a couple spills with no damage. Even when it bent the steering hoop the bars were fine.

agree with this also unless your riding smooth surfaces always. In the trails the back and fourth pull of the terrain made it more difficult as opposed to the thumb.

Just talked to Bill at BVC racing, GREAT guy to speak with. Seems like when I upgrade my stem, usually oversized clamps will come with it for the fat bar upgrade. Learned a little bit from this guy. Also he stated that where the bars start to taper, that's when the "Fatty" comes in. The 1''1/8 thickness is more in the center of the bars, then towards the outer section, the standard thickness is used.
