tfaith08
That's the only simple way I could determine that would provide vertical support. I'll scrap it. That pretty much winds up all the questions I had about the chassis unless there's something else that I've overlooked.
tfaith08
There is 4 square nuts inside there, and two gussets. You are replacing it with a foot and a half of chromoly tube in that drawing. There is no way you are getting rid of 3 lbs. of chassis weight. But I do dig the way that looks. The pro-peg inserts that came with the nerfs are about 2lbs each.
trickedcarbine
Right, but DOM isn't light either. In the end it could be a pound-ish... But I personally think it could be worth it to find some way to ditch the two clunky plates and clean things up. I think I would grind the plate off the face of the gusset with the two threaded inserts in it. Do it clean and flat. Make a plate to cover the opening, but leave it off for now. Notch a tube to fit the chassis tube inside the gusset and sticks out far enough to hold the nerfs on. Maybe six or so inches. Use the tube to mark the plate where it will come through and make a hole in the plate. Now weld the tube to the frame in the gusset. Slip the plate on over the tube and line it up and weld bothe the outside edge and the hole around the tube.
tfaith08
Would that provide vertical support though? That's my principal concern. I am buying a front bumper from F43 pretty soon, I'll see if he'll just throw in the tubing he uses for the inserts for a few extra bucks.I'll make the decision on whether I do it or not until last. I have a good welder for cheap, nothing to do on my days off, and I'll always somewhat wish I had done it. Not worth the time isn't a good reason but very unsafe is a good reason. I'll keep all responses in mind.
tfaith08
Need ideas on the subframe color. I'm thinking either black or white. Chassis will be white, a-arms, swingarm, nerfs, and bumper will be black. Seat will be black and white. A1 is for fags.
Bennett131
Chrome
tfaith08
I'm not very big into chrome. If I was to do something chrome it would be the subframe, but probably not on this build. A1 is for fags.
Rage_kage
If you get the frame blasted be sure to pay close attention to where the rear shock mount is welded to the frame. I didn't see mine cracked in that area untill it was blasted and i sprayed it down with crack identifier
tfaith08
I'll see if I can make it out when he's blasting it. If it is cracked, I'll just have to go from there. I have one guy doing all the welding and he's the most highly recommended. Luckily, he's a family friend and will probably do it for free. I won't let that happen though. Good guy, good work = good pay. Sand blasting and all powder is roughly $300. Everywhere I called around to down this way recommended one guy and google reviews agreed. Seat goes to CSL tomorrow, shocks will go to JET once I get around to it. A1 is for fags.
tfaith08
Making progress.
tfaith08
Still have to cut the stock subframe off and weld tabs on, brace the radiator mount, cut the stock bracket behind the front bumper and replace it with a single tube, and brace the lwoer stem mount.I do have a question though. The upper shock mounts seem to be quite a bit bigger than they need to be. If I was to cut them back some to clean them up, would it affect it structurally?Something like this:
