Chassis mods for MX

It would be hard for me to pay $1500 for just a chassis. I'd do $3500 for the chassis, swingarm, shocks, and a-arms, but even then it's a stretch for me since I need a wider front end than I'm assuming yours is.

If I did $2500 worth of work to a chassis and then used it, I wouldn't expect more than $1500 for it.

You're kidding right?

You'll be into an LT front end for a Banshee for at least $2,000, if not more, depending on the brand of everything.

A good rear shock is $800-1,000. A MX swingarm I guess to be in the $500 range.

Chassis work, regardless of what you're getting done is going to be at least $1,000, if you truly want anything "modified."

A bolt on sub-frame is $2-300.

Then there's the odds and ends shit that add up quick.

I'm not saying I blame you for not wanting to spend money, but I think your price range of a fully setup MX style chassis is fairly skewed.

Unless Tyler modified the front of his frame to simulate a 250R front end, you really won't be getting your money's worth on any level to suit your riding style.

You're better of looking for a used Laeger Pro Trax chassis or LSR Outlaw, or saving your money and pulling the trigger on a new complete Laeger setup.

That totals $4800. I don't think $3500 would be unreasonable for putting that frame into an unknown environment that it wasn't intended for (but very well may work well).

I've got $3100 in suspension components. I won't expect more than $2000 for all of it when I sell it. That's a slightly lower percentage of the total cost than I said I'd consider for yours. (72% if we get down to it).

But I couldn't use your swingarm or shock. I'd need the front end wider. I'd probably run into some kind of fitment issues with the radiator and pipes, tank shroud, etc. since I'd be running more stuff on it than you were from the last I saw.

Take that $4800 and knock off the $1300-1500 for the shock (by your estimate) and it's down to $3500, then I'd have to source those components myself and be down for a good month or more. ($1700) and selling the ones you're using for $1100-1500)Then I'm still at what looks like 44" or so, which I need more of, so that's custom a-arms. ($1k) and shocks ($1600) minus selling the ones on it ($1300-1500)

By my estimate, it would take roughly $7k to get that chassis to do what I need after powder and odds and ends.

I'll call laegers first.

My chassis is set up for hillclimbing, not MX. It's not for sale anyway.

You'll be into a Laegers for at least $8,000 by the time you buy all the specific components.

I'm not that familiar with them, but I'm guessing stuff like your calipers and such won't work on 250r based parts?

OEM chassis isn't worth a fuck for semi-serious jumping let alone real life MX.

I think LSR or Laeger is your best bet to do it right.

It would come down to an aftermarket chassis. I'm chasing down an outlaw right now. If that doesn't pan out, I'm just gonna get this thing going like I want and buy a Laeger's chassis down the road. After shocks, it'll be up to around $10k.

For tfaith08's edification:

A modern Laeger Pro Trax chassis will use yfz front calipers and hubs. The front rotors will be provided by Laeger. They are a wave style that are slightly larger in diameter then oem yfz. This results in better/stronger front braking.

Typically the rear end has been built to use 250R components. Some early models were based upon Banshee. I think you can order it either way. You would have to ask if they can use yfz to keep things consistent.

They will also build the rear to utilize LT500 components. That is how mine is setup. Everything is LT500 except for the caliper. My caliper is a 4 piston unit that came off of a Yamaha FJ1200 street bike. A brake stay will need to be sourced through Duncan Racing who has them made by ATV World in Europe.

Thanks. I appreciate all that. It will be around a year or so before I can get around to it. I need to get the wife's blaster built (lots of work there), bills paid off, and a new truck sometime soon.

I just need to get this chassis going for now to make the DT ride.

What is the DT ride and when is it?

It may be worth it in the end, but to me this sounds like a whole Lotta fuck that.
