04BRAAP Posted November 18, 2015 Report Share Posted November 18, 2015 Your advice is appreciated . What's up fellas, I was at the dunes this weekend and and I let someone borrow my bike . During the trip the bike stalled and it would not start anymore so it had to be towed to camp. When I got home I took the plugs out and noticed the left plug had melted aluminum on it . Oh oh!. Did a compression check on the left piston and it had zero compression. Did a test on the right one at it had 148. I took the cool head out and it looks like the piston melted a bit or a lot !. Any idea what could have caused this and what can I do so it won't happen again?. And what would you recommend I do. 04BRAAP Posted November 18, 2015 Author Report Share Posted November 18, 2015 most of the time when 1 side burns down the issue tends to be located on that side. whether it be air leak or carb issue among other causes..... The odds of it bruning down like that from being lean are unlikely as BOTH cylinders would of paid the price if that was the case. Doesnt matter if jets are new or 100 years old.. if there's any dirt floating around in your fuel or if anything fell in there while assembling.... it would of shit the bed like you see That what I was thinking . Why did one burn and not the other . Thanks for the knowledge . Any recommendations ?. Should I upgrade or keep it stock ?. And what would be a good bump in power if I still would like to use it as a trail bike and ride some bowls at the dunes every now and then?. I forgot to mention I do currently have first gen vforce reeds suspension is definitely next after I get this girls back on her toes. Any recommendations for pistons and a port job ?. trickedcarbine Posted November 19, 2015 Report Share Posted November 19, 2015 I am not usually one to do a leak down, but if you are still pretty new to wrenching and diagnosing 2 strokes, it's not a bad idea. It could show you if the motor suffered an air leak if you don't know what to look for. But like zilla said. A single side failure like that would usually be from a lean out.
