autolover3
Hey guys. Earlier I had posted asking some questions cause I was going to go look at a 87 Banshee for sale. Well... took a little trip to take a look at it and brought it home that night. Here she is. idk if this works, should be a quick video of it running. http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc3/reesey250/Banshee/th_304B6353-8C17-4972-981F-8B139A9A8635.mp4 Overall IMO a clean machine, needs some TLC but for being 28 years old and mostly original I can't complain. Even has stock airbox and lid. Has V Force 3 reeds, Pro Circuit Platinum pipes, new rear holeshots, tors eliminated with moose racing throttle, jetted, and older fox shocks up front. bad is the front BJ's and bushings are worn, rear axle has some play, and left side frame is broken around one of the foot peg bolt mounts. Does anyone have any info on these? Later I do plan on doin some elkas or something good etc. Hopefully this is the right section of forum to post this but I'd like to keep thread for rebuilding it this winter. If it isn't admin can move it if needed. Just would like to get the most feedback possible, this is my first banshee let alone a 2 stroke. I had a 07 YFZ450, but have always wanted a banshee. And after riding this and feeling that powerband, IM HOOKED! Anyways Ill get started. Took carbs apart to clean em out, found a 260 main and 25 pilot. One of the float pintle seats was a pain pullin out and ended up wrecking it but once out it was full of sand and the oring was shredded... not sure about that... Started stripping it down. I see people like to run cool heads, what are major benefits besides interchangeable heads for compression? Are these pro circuits pretty respectable, or should I pony up later for some t-5s. And here is where I got after a couple nights after work
autolover3
First once I get the frame stripped, I'd like to order these up and mock them to frame so i can weld/ reinforce the broken spots on frame. Anybody run these XFR's? I like the rear heel cup and won't do any hard riding with this fourwheeler without em. Just dont like any other setups unless you guys know of some other brands? What other mods with the frame should I look into if any? After that I will send the frame to be powdercoated to match my superduty. I love the Ruby Red color I have. I'm thinkin ruby red frame with bedlined front arms and swingarm, with some ceramic gold jugs. Trying to plan ahead with color scheme. Craig_b
ive got the xfr nerfs, the thing i dont like about them is you have to use the kick starter with your heel, i see some other dudes are running them too. i dont know if ya get used to it or not but im thinking about modifying mine. other than that they are sweet

Lowroll
If you do choose to part with the pro circuit pipes, I am interested in buying or maybe even trade for my pipes and cash. Just throwing it out

Would it be possible you think to modify the kick lever instead? I can't really decide now since I'm bare frame at the moment haha.. those fox shocks must be like vintage 1st gen units Thats what I'm thinkin. Will make a cool table top decor someday! cool head also keeps cyl temps down. due to bigget water jackets in the head. Is it worth runnin a temp gauge on these machines to help monitor? If you do choose to part with the pro circuit pipes, I am interested in buying or maybe even trade for my pipes and cash. Just throwing it out I'm not really sure yet, I have been doin some research and it seems the pro circuit platinums would fit my riding best. But who knows, I may change my mind! autolover3
So tonight I kept strippin the frame. Some pics... Good thing I decided to do a frame down restore... She's in little rougher shape than I thought. Loose bolts here and there, worn bearings for axle etc etc Frame overall looks good though. Really need some insite. What are some things to look into while I'm prepping the frame. Theres a couple brackets I want to cut and shave and weld in a plate under the seat where airbox was to mount electrical stuff. Should I build a box to hold a battery for 12v conversion later or will one fit in the rear plastics? I can't find where I found it but it was a coolant reservoir relocate mount with a deal for keeping two extra spark plugs in it too. Or maybe something like this I would like to run Pro armor full skids too.
hoppedupandcutdown
Several things I noticed, the swingarm bolt and axle weren't rusted in and must have came out nice, and the frame isn't bent upwards from wheelies. That means it was a really nice find. Good luck on the build! Check with JDS Customs for the electronics relocate bracket
autolover3
Oh! Steering stem lower bearing, I'm assuming I need a special tool to remove bearing "retainer"?? At the moment I'm kinda all over the place, planning too far ahead. Gotta get my bookmarks and wishlists straightened out lol. But simply i want to get frame completely ready for powdercoating right now. That way later on I'm not thinking of something else and wrecking the coating to modify. -skid plates -nerf bars, and weld broken mount for foot peg -cut off couple brackets -weld in new plate to mount electronics -figure out where to mount battery (whats a good size?) -get lights ready and figure out a mount for those

Would relocating electronics to the front pose and potential problems? Such as water hitting them etc.. Or are they pretty failsafe parts? And thanks! Hopin to have it done before summer rolls around just trying to balance my projects.
hoppedupandcutdown
bearing retainer inverted nut, use two big nuts locked together on a bolt to make a tool. That shop you got there has to have something laying about. I think a 3/4 bolt with a 1 1/4 head or 32mm is it.

hoppedupandcutdown
the electronics are safe anywhere, just dielectric grease in the connections. My homemade steering retainer tool... just a little OCD maybe
