Diesel Pickup Thread

Yep. And it definitely sucked.

But, I wanna know what Mr. Duncan's reasoning is.

My dad had a gas 4.6 in his f150 (I know it's not a diesel) it shot the spark plugs out of the head because they weren't held in by enough threads. He had that fixed for somewhere around 1800 I think (might be wrong that was years ago). It then shortly after having it fixed melted holes in 2 pistons. Truck had 68k miles on it. My dad's 5.4 that he has right now has 90k miles on it and it's rotted out beyond belief, and starting to nickel and dime him. I'm sure I could elaborate further why I dislike ford's, but I feel like it wouldn't matrer.

Rotted out, as in rust?

Aren't you in Michigan or that general area?

Yes rust. The bed is junk, rockers are junk, cab corners, the whole thing. I'm in PA but I've seen many other trucks and they don't seem to rot out as bad. My vehicle I have now is 3 years older and has 30k more miles on it (got rid of my duramax) and there is no sign of visible rust anywhere. The underneath even looks good.

My dad has an 04 with the 4.6. Engine is a dog, but it has 275k, and it looks and runs great still.

I'm not saying they are all pieces of shit, however what I am saying that in all of my experiences they have been. If someone else wants to buy one, by all means go for it. As far as I'm concerned though I will most likely buy something else. I just figured I'd share a few memories so nobody thought I was biased.

From what I read in snow management trade magazines, pretty much all of the North Eastern states pour the salt on the winter roads and parking lots.

It's not nere as common here.

On a visit to Hawaii years ago, the first thing I noticed was that almost virtually every car and truck that I saw that was about 3-5 years was starting to show quite a bit of rust. I was surprised.

I have to imagine the aggressive use of salt in the North East is going to have similar effects as the ocean air, especially to any vehicle that isn't washed thoroughly and frequently to clean the salt scuz off.

the road departments here fucling LIVE off of salt in the winter.

Leading up to a storm, during, and after.

Any dip below freezing.

It's all salt.

They just started that liquid chemical stuff.

For the 6.4 mentors.

Another one I've been eyefucking.

Ebay item 311509788295

They are willing to take 23k. It's a bit higher mileage but also 7k cheaper. They also have the ability to stick an EGR delete and exhaust on it in house. Not the complete deal down to the manifolds and all but the programmer and exhaust of my choice.

Thoughts?
