boonman Posted December 1, 2003 Report Share Posted December 1, 2003 so they get your tax money That's what sucks!!! In NY, you can pay tax on the ATV when it is bought from the dealer. Unless it is for Agricultural purposes.... Then, you sell the ATV. The person that buys it from you, has to pay taxes on the purchase price of the ATV AGAIN!!! So, the state makes out twice there. And then, along ddown the line. Each person that purchases it, has to pay tax on the purchase price for it. Even though it is from a private owner. And the way they do it, is that wen you register it, they whack ya with the tax hit. And the law states that you must register your machine whether you ride it on your own property or not. Except in an agricultural situation. You can get by without it, but don't get caught by the police without it..
