my guess the only reason why theres no vin and its been ground off is that it was stolen at one time or another did you buy it used and do you still have the dudes name and number you bought it from. i always keep some info from the dude i bought my bikes from cuz i have had friends have just what you explained happen and them loose their bikes or go through a bunch of shit to keep them. i dont know the details on what happen to them but i can find out i just know of 2 of them(brothers) that had the same prob and had to go and do a bunch of shit to keep their bikes.

Dude, get ready to get f-ed.I lost a CR250 because of the same situation. The bike was impounded and my lawyer asked me if I knew its origin.I told him I wasn't sure,so he told me to forget about the bike and accept the loss. The bike was an 87' and I couldn't trace it back to the original owner.

He told me that if I went to claim it and it came up stolen that I could be prosecuted.I will "NEVER" buy a bike without a title again.

When I did the j to a arm conversion on my son's I sandblasted the frame. I took great care around the area of the VIN so it would remain visible. After painting it is just barely visible. Had I sandblasted the frame in that area like I did the rest, the number wold have dissappeared. Has your frame been ever been stripped?

Like meat said. It would have to be titled by have a police officer to a vin to prove there was not vin. Then you'd have to apply for one. They'd send you the paperwork for the new vin. You'd have to add the vin... I use a trophy shop to make a meatal label that I rivet on. Then a police officer would have to do a vin inspection on it again to prove the number was added. Then you could get a title.

That's in Indiana anyway.

In NY, everything is sold with a title. It works well that way. However, my buddy bought a shee in Mi, and there is no titles there. Still doesn't have title, or registration for it... I painted my frame, and the VIN is now gone.. I still have my reggy for it though....
