m671054
Measure the outside. Frome base gasket surface to cyl head surface in about 4 places with them not mounted on the engine. Verify piton to exh port floor at bdc before taking off cylinders to measure. I repeat, find someone local with more hands on time and have them look at it in person. You will learn alot. sheerider11
So your still off side to side. There's something wrong somewhere. I'd take it to someone at this point. Either the cool head shell is messed up or the cylinders. This is something that needs to be addressed by a pro that has the correct tools. Lowroll
I think Justin is closest to me and he's 2.5 hours away. I might just have to pack it all up and go down. I'm going to swap domes, check it again, then pull jugs and measure overall lengths of cylinders Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
Lowroll
I'm determined to make it right. I'm not going to half ass this. Just blows that none of it is lining up. As stated earlier in this thread when I mentioned just sending it off to be built by someone, and somebody said that builders don't typically check these things. So for all I know I might have paid someone and still had this issue. Right? Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
sheerider11
But at this point that's your only issue. It needs to be checked for heights and I'd be looking into the coolhead. What brand is it?

sheerider11
I'd send my whole engine out. Tell whoever you need to figure out the squish issue. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
Lowroll
IF cylinder height is my issue, I'll consider hand lapping the jugs to correct the height. My squish is closer atleast! I am making progress Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
Surfrjag
Measuring the height of each cyl is a good idea. If you want to bring it to me we can get it together, running and dyno the same day.

I can definitely haul it down in pieces if I have to
Surfrjag
If its a small amt I would hand lap it like you said. We can also check port time with that bigger base gasket
Lowroll
So when would you be available to lend a hand with this type of thing? Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
hercalmighty
I had a similar situation when I first put my motor together. I flip flogged everything and it worked out. I took the base gasket and flipped it over, took the right piston and put it on the left, left piston on the right, right dome on left and left some on right. Also, now that you have the jugs on and torqued down, take the head off and measure the squish with a piece of solder that goes all the way across the piston instead of through the spark plug hole. Lowroll
Since I'm I'm no rush, I'm going to play with things like that, see if anything changes and note any differences. I'll start with domes, then pistons, then base gaskets. Why not try. If I can get them right, I might finish assembling it Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
sleeper06
When checking squish you need to check both sides of piston at the same time the piston will rock in the bore on the wrist pin bearing ..005 give or take so I usually stick two peices in the same bore lined up with wrist pin you will be suprised how much it changes if your not doing it that way
