Banshee launch issues

Not that you don't know what you're doing but I'd be really interested to see what Surf comes up with when/if he checks the stroke....

Sleeper---- I can only assume that you have seen this problem before being that you told him to check that pretty early on in this process?

There's a chance I don't know what I'm talking about. I take 0 offense sir. My brother however is a ford diesel mechanic, and has built his own engines, we just aren't well versed in 2 strokes. I'm learning though. I've come a long way in 4-5 months

i asked him to check it green because its the only other thing that could be off, I mean you cant stretch cylinders.

all I did was lower the step by the amt that he was off to get a proper squish clearance

Understood.... I've seen cranks with a stroke that's not correct, I've seen then out of phase right out of the box, it's certainly not common, but can definitely happen if the person putting the holes in the wheels gets lazy, or the person assembling it gets lazy!

It's a kick in the nuts I know. I went through the same issue.

I spent all this money and chased my tail. Finally I broke down and brought it to sleeper06. Glad I did. I had a totally different animal by the time I was done.

Sucks I had to pay twice for the same thing but you get what you pay for.

Been there with another local builder.. Brought it to Sleeper, at the end of the day my banshee is the fastest it's ever been! And I have mild mild work done! I wasted $1300 having it a local shop who made a mess out of previous setup. Had I went to Sleeper from jump, I could have a nice 7mil built and not wasted $1300!!!! Lesson learned!

So I asked him specifically about the quality of his crankshafts and he assured me that his cranks were fine, not saying that's the truth, and at this point I'm not backing him due to these issues. What I have is certainly not a HR crankcb7fb23f6df8e8a89c22b23219b606f6.jpgf8d665b0653bfde258247cb3844e8b15.jpg

Seems like what I am reading he is "taking care of his customers alright"- by bending them over his work bench, taking their wallets out of their back pockets then burying an axle up their asses!

same here. I paid for the same shit twice after hjr. I paid Kevin for everything. After a year and a catastrophic clutch failure (unrelated to hjr) I threw in the towel.

Brought it to sleeper06 and basically started over. Now I haven't touched my motor since. Just a few small things to tune it in.

Stroke measure same on both cylinders?

So, this is something I will admit I hadn't thought of. We took all these measurements but never compared the 2. So, I just measured from the top of my cases to the top of my pistons with my dial calipers.... And what did I find? To the top of the left piston, 3.995, and the top of the right, 4.186. Exactly the number I'm off on the stroke according to my squish test. So I have a crank with 2 different strokes. This explains why the left cylinder sounds different, smokes different and why the plugs have never looked the same when I pull them. Damnit I'm pissed. It needs a crank before I ride it again

Took a few more numbers after a quick conversation with justin. I was checking squish at 12/6 and he told me to check at 3/9 because of the connecting rod, won't allow the piston to rock and change the data. So put the jugs on, put the head on (without of rings to avoid pinching and damaging one) and I show 004 difference. 064 on the left and 060 on the right. I also measured down to the piston from the deck and I show almost 007 different in bdc, the left piston sits lower than the right. Why the TDC and bdc numbers are different is beyond me, but that's what I show

Sorry, after rethinking the 3/9 thing about the wrist pin I double checked and bdc is about .003 different from left to right. If I am overthinking this, someone just let me know. Right now it's looking as though the new domes will still work but idk. this whole thing makes no sense, none of the numbers add up. Maybe the jugs are different heights? or am I digging too deep?

Didn't you say the base gasket varied? Like jugs were on an angle?

Best to measure both cylinder heights, both sides of the crank, and both deck heights. Justin will get you sorted out.

It's thanks to you I met Sleeper last year this time when's put up a post here I was looking for someone local on Long Island to instal my new a-arms and shocks on my freshly rebuilt 250R and set up all the geometry properly.. You saw the post and suggested I contact him Sleeper, I did, found out he's 15 min from me, he put my 250R back as a roller and I already had my banshee there! He just ported my stock cylinders, tuned on kill for straight 110 and put my shearers on, new reeds my VF2's were cracked, and a bunch of other misc stuff. His work is meticulous! He will be building my 7mil, my "budget" is to make 100hp on stock cylinders hahaha - yeahhhhhh boyyyyyy!
