Whats your opinion where to start with this issue

Recommended Posts

Bike runs, idles, starts awesome. Rips like hell till higher rpms after the Powerband fades in 5 and 6th. Then it starts breaking up. Its very uniformed and it doesnt feel like a fuel issue. Ive been told coil, other say they had the same thing and just replaced the plug boots. Bikes an 03. Anyone experienced this? Thanks

370 main. Dune port, 40 over, cool head 19cc domes, 110 octane. Trinity stage 4 pipes and silencers. K&n pods with outerwares.

Good question. Just got it 2 weeks ago and was never told. They guy that jetted it and dune ported it is local. The set up has been together for years thats why I feel its either the plug caps or coil.

It's possible that 370 is a bit fat. What do the plugs look like, and what race gas are you using?

Plug caps are easy and cheap enough to change (if thats your problem) I change mine every year or so just for the hell of it, might as well change them anyway.

If it's a new to you bike, the first thing you need to do is clean carbs, verify and record jets and needle position, don't take somebodys word for it. While carbs are off do a leakdown for peace of mind and check compression. All this info should be wrote down so you can remember.

If carbs check out, the list could go on and on as to what your problem may be. Pull your stator cover off and as Weave said check if you have timing, if so write this down as well, set pickup gap to both flywheel nubs while your in there. This is just the basics that need done on a "new to you bike"

Post your elevation and riding temps as well. If you don't own a Clymers, that should be your first purchase. OHM all electrical per manual specs. It's not uncommon for a stator to crap out and break up at certain RPM's.

Tricked has a nice list he may be nice enough to post for you, (or you can do a google search) Pretty much covers everything.

Pulled off my outerwares and ran just the k&n pods. Seemed to help a bit. Going to put fresh uni foam pods I have for it on tomorrow and see what happens

This is the setup r&b racing does in lots of his builds. Ill check today how the plugs look. It starts forst kick no choke everyday and sits and idles without loading up.

I have noticed similar builds other have are nowhere near that big of main jet. Wide open in 2nd then shut it down before max rpm and coast to a stop still the old trick to check plugs?
