Got to dig out the ratio cup been a wile . Use to running bottle of spectro to 5 gal which I think is 52:1 . So 16oz to 5 gal 40:

Strm Trpr
Yes, 16oz of oil to 5 gallons is 40:1. Since you're a mechanic, I'd buy some special tools. Compression Tester craftsman or better. FAST Carb Sync Tool Simple eBay 2 stroke digital tachometer. Build a leakdown tester. I believe there's a pinned thread on how to build one. Flywheel puller Farm and Sand Toys.com is a great resource and so is RMATV.com
Strm Trpr
Yes, read, read and then when your tired of reading, read some more!!
Johnd267
Everyone just calm the fuck down a second. 40:1 is 16oz to 5 gal, if your 1 oz either way you've changed the mix so be exact. Before you go all modding crazy, i would do some basic maintenance first to see what ya got. Take some time n read through some of the threads on here and see what problem guys are having, thats the stuff you wanna avoid. Haaaa. To funny . I'm just doing pipes that's all prob over the winter . Yea been reading threads also. Hope I don't have to mess with jetting going to 40:1 . Also has that stupid K&N on it so may have to idk. All I know is the thing smokes pretty well when wide open but that could be oil burning off in muffler or pipes. I'll do some plug chops to make sure I'm not to lean. Strm Trpr
Good What's wrong with messing with jetting? Do you know what's in the carbs now?
Johnd267
Good What's wrong with meeting with jetting? Do you know what's in the carbs now? Well the machine is bone stock so I would think stock size jets . Guy has been running 32:1 he said . Honda oil. What's meeting with jetting mean? Typo? Lol. Johnd267
well, when ya clean the carbs, see what its got for jets and report back, you can always pull the pipes off and burn em out, i do mine every other year. its a 2stroke thing lol, i do my dirt bikes too. Dude that's funny I do the same with map gas torch

Johnd267
For now I just want to ride tomorrow with a safe mixture with out checking jets and what not . Bike runs great and idles awesome . No bogging etc . When I put pipes on I'll need to rejet the mains so I'll clean the carbs and check reeds etc . Maybe even install new reeds for the hell of it I'm sure it could use them . What's a few bucks for reeds and gaskets .
Strm Trpr
IIRC, from FMF's site, they state with airbox lid removed requires 30 pilots and 260 mains, needle clips middle groove. After having my stock carbs bored, I went with 30 pilots, needle clips 4th groove down and 310 mains. Airscrews almost backed out completely. I wasn't pulling the bowls in the dunes to change the pilots, but I did move the needle clips into the middle groove, and man, what an improvement. Since then I changed the pilot back to 27.5's and the airscrews 1.5 turns out but I haven't ridden it yet.
