building a trail shee cast or forged pistons

Recommended Posts

Not to be a dick but i wasnt asking if i should have crank welded or not. We all know it should be. If the funds pop up that i can afford to have the crank welded i will but as of right now its a no go.

Not to be a dick, but if you're going to cheap out on important shit maybe you should sell your banshee.

50 bucks plus shipping to and from plus new seals upwards of 100 bucks...im not drag racing, with gobs of compression so therefore i dont see the reason to weld the crank at this time.

You're clearly ahead of the curve and know exactly what your doing. You'll be fine. Run it.

I just see money being thrown down the tubes on a top end , did you pressure test motor before tear down to verify seals are good and pin point reason for failure. Banshees get a bad wrap because 99% of owners fail in proper procedure on teardown and assembly. Where do u live I would be willing to point you in the rite directions.

simple  forged.

100% stock replacement i'd say cast should be fine.  one thing cast will usually NOT wear the bore as much as a forged piston.  if the motor stays together and you do wear out a set of rings/ pistons  sometimes the bore is still true enough to drop in a set of fresh cast.   sometimes  not every time. piston to wall clearance is much more important on cast also.  to tight even a lil bit that sucker is going to cold sieze,  too loose even a smidge  that skirt is blowing out the pipes.

i didnt read all the other posts on this q..

Cast pro x in the girls bike.

Ported stock stroke that she'll rev the piss out of (as much as the pipes let her)

And that I ride like I stole it. No problems after a year. Pistons on hand for the boring process and obviously guy knew it was for cast.

Not a dealership that'll just bore to whatever size then go to the back and grab you Pistons.
