Axle Nut

Recommended Posts

I'm going to install my new Fireball HD +2 swingarm and at the same time, I'm going to swap my Dominator RPM Axle off my 87 onto my 02 and I need a new axle lock nut.
What do you guys recommend?
I'd like a set it and forget it deal.
Not something that's going to need regular attention.

Any other suggestions?
My stock lock nuts are fine, just wanted to dress up the situation while I was in there.

Thanks in advance!!

I just bought one from cascade. It is a modquad part. Haven't used it yet but the above post makes me wonder if I should even try. My stock axle nuts absolutely will not stay tight after a ride

Do you know how to tighten the stick ones?

It's a real pain in the ass. Almost need a degree to get it right.

We just backed them off, cleaned the threads, applied locktite and wrenched them. The previous owner tore them up, looks like he used a chisel to drive them loose and may have got it out of round, might be why they wont stay.

thats why they loosened up. Need to tighten the first one. Then the second back the first one out I think no more then a quarter turn or something in to it all while with in there tq. specs and having no play

So do you think I should even bother with the 1 piece axle nut? I mean, its here. I was planning to just run it. Like I said, my outer axle nut right now is borderline destroyed. open end wrench wont fit it because of how badly the last guy tore it up. He destroyed most of the bike really. I'm doing my best to fix it all

Thanks for all the input guys.

What's the better design, and why do you say fuck the stock 2 nut design?

I'll check the service manual and see what they recommend for tightening.
