lol i dont think its because his bike is fast.... my bike has zero bottom end that shit is a turtle off the dig

 

im positive i could have bought a new set of stock jugs sent them to a site sponsor.. ported them to match my 4mill and i'd be leaving him atleast 2 houses behind me

 

lets say i went that route i'd be looking at 300 for a set of stock cylinders another 350 for a port job another 180-200 for a piston kit then about 160 to install my top end and there is always a WTF expense some where....a stock cylinder set up would have run me over a 1,000 dollars...this athena kit is going to run about 460 installed as i already have the pistons

 

call me crazy but thats a significant amount of money even if my bike runs half way decent i'll take it

ok so the deal was i bought a bike that had an athena kit on it to begin with...by all accounts the bike hauled ass but the guy who sold it to me got rid of the original athenas due to scoring...he then went and bought a  pair of big bore sleeve stock cylinders with a new set of 68mm pistons...i bought the bike with the parts for the top end i put them on and the bike runs like shit it doesnt even get going until you hit 4th gear its a beast from that point on

 

 

now my theory as to why the bike doesnt run like it should is because the port work is hogged out..i know nothing about the cylinders (as to who ported them or what kind of port is on them)  because i didnt buy them

 

i know its a 4 mill and i know its running a spacer plate which i will be getting rid of this weekend....my mechanic said the bike was running rich he leaned it out as much as he could (safely) and its still not where it needs to be

"I know its a 4 mil and I know its running a spacer plate".......so now we know a little more of why it don't run right.  jugs are ported but not for 4mil, dude went cheap on the rebuild and now YOUR the one that hasta fix it.  theres no reason a 4 mil big bore would just blaze the shit out of a stock stroke. Sounds like the dude just threw it together so it ran and said For Sale! lol.

 

thats exactly what he did lol which im not that mad i got a titled shee for 2200 im a risk vs reward type of guy i thought to myself ok the top end may be a little suspect but fuck it worse case scenario i have a running bike until i come across a deal on a pair of cylinders

and for you...look i dont drag race im  not building my bike to be the fastest in the world not everybody needs that

 

the bike needs to be fun to rip thru the trails your making the mistake in thinking that everyone needs or even wants  90hp banshee...not the case here i just wanted some credible info on the athena set up.i have other hobbies so FML if if not chomping at the bit to spend 1600 on the top end of a bike that i may ride once every 2 months

You are a moron. I didn't make the mistake of thinking you need 90hp, I made the mistake to think you had a brain. I never said anything about horsepower.

dude i could turn around and sell these fucking things tomorrow and i wont lose a nickel...when i said half way decent i didnt mean running at 50% of its capacity lol thats how my bike is running right now...alot of my friends have ported shees with 4 and 7 mill cranks they take this alot more seriously than i do i just wanna be able to keep up in the trails...nobody goes thru the trails at 80 mph lol that shit is irrelevant to me if my bike had decent bottom end which is what you need in the trails i would have kept my stock cylinders

 

right now i'll probably get waxed by a bone stock shee with pipes

So you seem to have info. You choice to ignore it. But since you saved so much money and bought these with the tons of bad feedback your okay. Because your sure they'll sell with the tons of bad feedback.

You need 4 mil domes or a machined head. You didn't say wether your bottom end is up to par.

Runs good only after 4th gear? That seems to be a pretty big issue.

again if it doesnt run right i can sell them lol i already have a buyer thats a non issue...i had the bottom end checked on the bike the crank has no play the cases are in good shape before i bought the bike he changed the clutch basket pressure plate and the clutches....the bike just doesnt have any take off 4th gear is strong i tried to change the gearing on it but then i still didnt have any bottom end and the bike lost the top end.. gravel might be right maybe the cylinders arent ported to a 4 mill crank

 

everyone told me this bike was quick with the athenas they said the guy should have left them in the bike...i cant vouch for anything because i didnt ride it until he switched the jugs out...lol this experiment isnt going to cost me much if it doesnt work out i'll either go to a ported stock cylinder set up...maybe i'll even get tired of ppl talking shit and get a ported serval...but if i can avoid spending a shit ton of money for a hobby i dont participate in every day then i will

 

im not saying you guys are wrong but im starting to see its hit or miss with these cylinders some have had good results others have gone thru what you guys are warning me about.....i appreciate the feedback good or bad lol just as long as the info is useful

its been to 2 different mechanics one said the cylinders where hogged the bike wont ever run right until you change them...the other one tried to tune it and it ran better but still not up to par the bike was smoking like crazy and he leaned it out as much as he could...im not much for wheelies and shit but its hard as hell to wheelie the bike it just doesnt have enough grunt on the low end

Your mechanic sounds clueless. If it runs good in 4th,it should run good in all gears.

Sometimes if a bike is over geared it'll have a hard time pulling the top gears, but not the other way around.
