dttuner
I've suspected for a while now that I have a bad ignition (meaning the thingy the key goes into). The other day, I had just started riding when, while going up a hill mid-throttle, my engine just cut-off and I came to a stop. Tried to kick it several times, and could tell I wasn't getting any spark. I turned ignition key off, and back on... kicked it once and she fired right up. No more problem for the next 2 hours of riding. Sometimes I can't start the banshee on the first few kicks, so I'll turn ignition off/on and she'll start right up. What should I check/replace to fix this issue?
camp0429
If you want the key just buy a new switch and key assembly, if you dont care if you have a key or not, follow the harness from the switch, goes to a white 2 wire plug and splice the wires together. I think they are black and black/red stripped, but its been a while so I cant remember the colors for sure
RadarRacing
Replace the key switch or just put a tether on it and shorten up the harness.
sheerider11
Tether should be installed from te factory. I'd say cut it out and put a tether.
dttuner
Anyone got a link to a guide on installing the tether?
oldskool
From tether, ground one wire to frame, hook other to coil. You still have to put the two wires at key switch together
hercalmighty
You can also get a closed circuit tether. You can hook it up to the key wires and basically use your tether as the key. This is the setup I'm putting on my quad since the key was already taking off Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
dttuner
You gotta go slow with me folks. Any diagrams out there on how to do this? @ hercalmighty - got a link to where I can buy the item?
hercalmighty
I bought mine from the dealership. I'll look and see if I can find the package for it Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Lowroll
I use my kill switch as my key. We traced the wires and tied into them behind the radiator on the left hand side. tied into a black and black with white IIRC
