flex bars and extended stems

Recommended Posts

Looking to take the plunge into flex bars but would like to see what others are running. I currently have stock stem with renthal banshee bars. They feel decent but probably a little low. What bend flex bars do you guys run and how much extended stem would i need to be comparable to my current setup? Also whats the benefit to going forward on the stem? Any pics would be appreciated. Fwiw i might be adding an oversize tank in the future also.

How tall are you? What is your build like? (talking about you, not the bike)

Do you ever ride sleds? Yes, I'm asking this in relationship to your questions.

I have Flexx bars on mine and I really like them. I cannot remember the bend at the moment without looking them up in my records, but they are a low rise.

I have a plus 1 taller plus 1 forward stem. I also have a GPR too mount steering stabilizer which adds another inch approximately.

I'm 5'9" and stocky build. This has been a pretty comfortable setup for me. Some might feel this is a bit tall for my height, but after several seasons on sleds in the winter, I find that I really like it.

5'9" 195lb. No snowmobiles but cant stand the feeling like sitting on top of the machine. My bar are rolled up now to feel okay sitting and standing. Looking at those pics is about what i was thinking. +2 with quad bend. Are your arms pretty flat while sitting? Any thoughts on the benefit of moving it forward?

Sounds like you're built pretty similar to me then. I'm 195-200, I'm more barrel chested and not particularly wide at the shoulders, So I personally cannot stand having the ends of my bars rise up much. I prefer them flat or even slightly down at the ends.

If you look closely at my pics you can see that I have my bars rolled back a bit. I found that this fits my hand position best plus the bars are now pivoting at angle towards the front of the bike. This seems to help absorb the bumps and make the bars perform like I think they should rather then having them bend in a straight up and down motion. Kinda like having front end rake with an angle like my Laeger's chassis versus an oem chassis which is very flat.

I feel like having the stem in a plus 1" forward design helps with compensating for rolling my bars back and helping me keep my body weight slightly further back so I can keep loft the front end easier.

I think my bars are 14 degree quad low rise. When I get home at the end of the work week I can check my records.

Best pic I have I think.

I love them. I just got a +2+1 stem that I'm going to install. I have a standard +2 now. I have my bars rolled forward.

Leager is right about the rolled forward, rule of thumb is to have them at the same angle the bumps are coming. So there best rolled back.

I'm 6'3". Not possible. That's why I have them damn near straight up and down.

The stem on the bike can't use risers. That why I went with an LSR stem so I can stack risers and get it where I want. 975908fb4f9ccdc8c160739e661fde57.jpgf269766e669fc89444beb8f7a7dd57fe.jpg

OP, have you ridden the Flexx Bars?

Do you really think it's worth the extra coin?

I'm rocking a +2+1 Fireball stem and Pro Taper Contour 1-1/8 CR Mid Bends and I think the stem could be +1+1.-

ODI Rogue clamp on grips too.

HUGE Improvement over stock.

I can ride laps around Pismo and not get arm pump now.

And I'm 5'9" too.

These are the best pics I can do for now. 5b0658cc46d8cec0d7e13a6fa5a10f60.jpgf165deca85f40fee4682bfa92fe2c2f8.jpg42df6994c8b6e1271d12118c14fa9c55.jpg
