bansheeman8
i've been searching and couldn't find anything on this. My shee is really confusing me. Ok my mods are T-5's, FMF Torque reeds, no airbox with toomey air fliter, bored to 370, stock head milled 150psi. Ok right now Im running 27.5 pilots and 340 mains with airscrews 2 turns out. Ok now to the point, After I did the pipes I never changed the pilots, only the mains cuz my shop didn't have the pilots but I got the mains right. Problem was then that it was running bad right off idle but would scream on top. So the shop finally got the pilots and I put them in, now it runs great off idle and almost to the midrange but runs horrible up on the top. Now why would changing the pilot cuz the main to become too rich?? It would run great on the topend untill I switched the pilot. No I didn't get the carb bowls switched oh and TORS is removed. Any help??

BenBB
It's because the pilots flow fuel from idle up, so if your mains were perfect before, they are a little rich now from the extra fuel being supplied by the pilots, you might try a size smaller on the mains and see how it runs. Good luck.
Nightrider
If its running good up "until" the midrange, then your needles may need a slight adjustment. If the switching the mains jets don't work for you, then the next step would be lowering the needle one notch.
bansheeman8
Thanks guys I;ll be trying those out today but its like 30degress colder today so that would screw it up anyways. I'll mess with it and see. Oh yea one more thing I always get this confused but if you started in the middle of the needle which way would be lean...up towards the top or down?? BansheeBrian
Lean down and rich up.
Banchetta
30 degrees colder would make it perfect for the mains now... Bennbb and Nightrider are both dead on....I'd do a plug check for the mains at wot again and readjust. If it still acts up, then try lowering the needles by raising the clip towards the blunt end....one slot will do a lot...
