camp0429 Posted June 5, 2015 Report Share Posted June 5, 2015 further more, my resivor is NEVER on the full line, if I fill it to the full line it'll puke it out till its about half full, so I never fill it to the line........pretty good odds you have nothing wrong here, you just may need some carb cleaning and a tune. You filled it when it was cold! You run it, water gets hot and expands. Water spits out of overflow tube. Water level is now where it will stay until you remove the goofy tank. Did you not say you noticed the dribble early on in the day and then continued to run it? If it truly had a problem the dribble would have continued. Case closed. Lesson learned. sleeper06 Posted June 5, 2015 Report Share Posted June 5, 2015 That's why I pressure test coolant system, then take rad cap to auto parts store and match it up with a late model Honda . His bike might be just fine and fluid he's missing finally got through all the tubing. I don't run overflow bottles except on asphault bikes. So if I top off the reservoir again, should it just stay at that level? Or would you expect the same to happen, system to spit some coolant and level-out again? blowit Posted June 5, 2015 Report Share Posted June 5, 2015 Gravel is correct. We recommend when using the burp bottle to just run the level at the minimum. Filling up the burp bottle will always result in coolant burping from the bottle. If tank is emptying completely and the level in the radiator goes down, then you will need to investigate further. Water/glycol mix (coolant) will not really expand much at all BUT engines will always generate steam pockets in the coolant system. This steam will seek to escape through the radiator vents. camp0429 Posted June 5, 2015 Report Share Posted June 5, 2015 Sleeper, explain this too me, why is it not a recirculation system? same system as your car.....coolant heats up till the radiator is full then dumps into the resivior, when it cools back down....its sucks it out of the resivior back into the radiator hense the ''full'' and ''low'' lines on the resivior. Im not understanding your comment, when my shee is cold, its on the low line, when its warm its 2/3rds to the full line, then when it cools down its back to the low line, I realize this is on a small cooling system and only dealing with a couple cups of coolant but still. I would think this would be compounded by the fact theres no thermostat Just wondering, not trying to blow this up into something its not. if he topped off the resivior and topped off the radiator, its gunna come out somewhere cause its too full. A lot of guys don't even run the overflow tank, I took mine off a year ago, and ran it right out of the radiator and zip tied it to the bottom of the frame. Ran it like that ever since and never had an issue with overflow coming out until one day it puked a bunch of coolant out and blew all over the place. I had a head gasket fail, fixed that and haven't had a issue since. Granted I don't abuse it and try not to get it too hot, but all I do is trail ride so air flow at times is pretty limited, even still borin around the woods it's never lost coolant Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
