I guess I should be pretty happy, I took a trinity 2:1 manifold and put a stock 2000 polaris scrambler 400 carb on it. It's a 35mm mikuni, it's no fancy flatside or anything, i installed with the stock jets in it. I'm running ported reed cages and TDR reeds, degree key, and pt mids. Miracously the bike started up within 10 kicks and it has been sitting for months. I adjusted the idle and it sounded perfect, so I decide to take it for a quick spin, it was 30 degrees so i just ran across the field a few times and parked it.

Low end feels good, no hesitation and if I go WOT it goes full on without missing.

Midrange is so so, if i'm in a higher gear and decide to go WOT it will miss and sputter before clearing up. Do I need to lower or raise my needle?

Top end feels strong, but the damn throttle sticks WOT everytime I nail it so I have to chop the throttle to unstick it. What's the fix to this???

I've yet to do a plug test at WOT b/c of the cold weather and more importantly my lack of clothing. Honestly, it doesn't feel any faster then it was when I was running a moto-fast 2-1 and stock carbs. Could my stock clutch be slipping and me not no it? I know a slipping clutch, and it hooks down low, but maybe the top end is to much for the clutch.

I hope that someone can help me address my problems, I have nothing to do tomorrow but play with my toys, girlfriend and mom works, so I guess dad and I will mess around in the barn as usual. Thanks again

Lower the needle and that should clear up the sputtering...Does it idle good?? You can't compare top end if its not even jetted in...A few sizes on the mains can make substantial differences....A good way to tell if the clutch is slipping is run it against a car. you should be able to hit 85mph w/ a 15 tooth front sprocket and 20" tires....When my clutch was slipping, I only got 72mph...

yeah, it idles like a champ, I'll test my main jets, fix the needle and see what kind of speed I'm getting. Something tells me with 6years on it, it could use a new clutch. Thanks for the help.

Happy Thanksgiving

Marc

PS, it's not starting very easy, i dunno if i had some wd in the carb or what, but now i'm kicking my leg off trying to start. How do I know if i need a larger or smaller pilot jet? :(

Any more help please ;)

try a larger pilot, one size will make a big difference, the readjust the air screws if you haven't now...

so that's a 15 front and 40 rear? or 41?

15/40 and 15/41 is only about 1-2mph difference....I was running a 15/41 though..
