Soupbox660 Posted April 9, 2015 Report Posted April 9, 2015 So this is probably a stupid questions, but I just dont wanna waste time and screw something up. I noticed that when I really wind the motor up, it just falls on its face at high rpm. So I thought, well I guess I will rejet, even though my jetting has always been pretty spot on and I have changed nothing. So I checked this and that. Well I took the pipes off, and heard a terrible rattle like something was broken. Well the core just flops about. And it comes out of line from the pipe tube itself, so I would assume my exhaust is flowing very poorly. Anyway, obviously the silencers need to be repacked, but is there anything else I need to do? Is it just packing that keeps the cores in place or is somthing broken? The pipes are Toomey T5's. Thanks Quote
hoppedupandcutdown Posted April 9, 2015 Report Posted April 9, 2015 The cores are long enough to fit inside the aluminum on each end unless they are rusted or have been beat on. Toomey sells new replacements. Quote
camatv Posted April 9, 2015 Report Posted April 9, 2015 i have made small spacers and welded them in the cores. the no packing and lack of core alignment was affecting power for sure. or just get replacement centers. you can also get some stainless steel ones if you look around. most need fitted to the silencer. Soupbox660 Posted April 9, 2015 Author Report Posted April 9, 2015 Ok, I assume the packing has been missing for awhile. Gotta confess, I haven't repacked in probably 5 or 6 years. Im sure the lack of it caused the cores to just get all kinds of stress on them. I will probably try and weld them up then. Thanks guys! Quote
