99Red_Roostr
Just install a temp gauge, its 20oF out side, when warmed up Shee's running about 80oF - 90oF. Should I block off the radiator a bit to increase the temp. I'll deal with jetting, but what would the best operation temp be?? Eventually it will be -20oF, I live in Minnesota. ps Paddle Masters kick serious roost in snow!! BenBB
Where I ride, the ambeint air temp is usually between 50F and 90F, I always warm mine up until it hits 100F, and when the jetting is perfect it stays right at 160F while riding hard...if it ever hits 180F I shut it down and point it into the wind. BUT I run Water Wetter in the coolant, and the lowest temp I think I've ridden has been right above 30F. Also, temp gauges can vary in accuracy & calibration, so yours may be fully warmed up and show 80F, and operate showing under 130F...but if you're riding in -20F you probably would want to block off half the radiator or more... Is Redline Water Wetter compatible with coolant such as Dexcool (orange color)? My temp gauge reads around 180-190 when riding hard in Glamis but it has gotten as high as 195. At that point I shut it down. I already have one of those inline coolers but I was looking at Water Wetter last time at the shop and was curious if I should try it. 99Red_Roostr
In the tips section I read about blocking the air that sneaks around the radiator. so it forces all the air through. Sound like a good idea if you running hot. I'm on the other end its below 100 when ridden hard (in winter). 99rr
BenBB
I'll hafta look on the bottle Kev, or you can see if Redline has anything online about mixing with dexcool...but I do know the stuff works, I was averaging 180F before I added it, now it stays around 160F most of the time (with 50/50 ethylene glycol & distilled water and like 3-4 oz. of Water Wetter). The only time it heats is if I'm hitting the same jump over and over and don't get alot of air flowing through the radiator.
KEVPOPPAPUMP
I only remember the 3 comparisons on the back: straight coolant, 50/50 with water wetter, and water wetter and distilled water. I didn't see anything about Dexcool in particular and was sort of hesitant to just dump it in when I refill my radiator. I'll check it out today when I hit up the shop. rzcolobanshee
Maybe this is different for 2 stroke oil, but to get maximum performance and the least engine wear you need to be running at least 170 deg
boonman
My bike runs between 160-180. And Dexcool is meant to ruin cars. not banshees. (key fact here, Dexcool is JUNK)
99Red_Roostr
Thanks - thats the ticket I was looking for - I was thinking you get more performance if the air is cold and the engine is Hot ( more expansion ) . I'm gonna block it off till I'm 160 or so. 99rr
