ryguy27
Do you tap it in place?
sprinklerman
Lap the flywheel to the crank snout. The key dosen't do crap except index the flywheel. If you're expecting it to hold the flywheel on , you're in trouble.
ryguy27
Just tapped it out with rubber mallet , just need to know if it should seat in the crank tightly
n2otoofast4u
There is a dimple on the key. It will/should take a light tap to get it seated.
registered user
make sure the key is at the same angle as the slot in the flywheel. key should take a slight tap to get it in. chamfer the edges slightly with a file. no need to be hitting the flywheel with anything. common sense shit ya know. if ya dont got any then ya better get some http://www.hotrodsproducts.com/TunersTips.aspx?ItemID=31&page=
trickedcarbine
In 10 years of rebuilding these things, I've never had to use a mallet to seat a flywheel. Just lap it, clean it, tap the key in, and slide the flywheel on. If it doesn't just seat I pull it back and try again.

registered user
you can tap the flywheel on if you want but ive never seen the need for it. when the nut is torqed then you should be good to go. if not then maybe the key is in wrong or the crank snout is buggered up and not letting the flywheel pull up tight on the taper

possum
Im with tricked. I just sit key in place, slide flywheel on, push all the way on by hand. I can feel it grab the crank. put nut on and torque. done
Sandking
Red lock tight will hold the key in place while you put the flywheel on.

registered user
the key should be a hair bigger than the slot. hence the slight tap to install it. if it needs redloctite to hold it in place then see n20tofast4u comment
