sleeper06
165 main 48-50 pilot I would go rite to s 165 main rite off the bat , if it pulls hard and clean go up one at a time till it rolls over or surges then back it down. Don't drive yourself crazy with plug color I've seen people chase light brown and toast motors
DezertKing83
OK haha I put on the 158 earlier didn't go far just down the street as soon as I pulled in the garage a cop drove by! Haha but at least the plug was wet she was throwing a bit more smoke too but still pulled strong! I'll grab a couple jets before we head out so I can do some tuning in the dirt! When I'm up sizing the Jets it should bog a bit on wot?
DezertKing83
Bog if the jet is too big I meant... also how strong is the function of the need clip position? I've been keeping it at the center when changing jets to do fine tuning for when I get the right jet...should I keep doing that? Or would say 1st or 5th position give a noticeable difference in jet selection?
trickedcarbine
Get the pilot and main sorted, then fine tune the needle. Just start the needle pretty rich if you're one of those guys that gets wide open and like to start blipping the throttle.
Larry's Shee
Pullin the choke is a quick and dirty way to check jetting. You made it sound like you were riding a while with it on. So were you?
Strm Trpr
Build a leakdown tester you lazy bastard. You said it yourself you had leaks and you had to redo everything. Why the fuck would you spend hella scratch on a badass motor and not be sure it's puss. The builder should have got his jetting real close. If not, then there is someone on this site that can get him close. Who puts the needle clip on full rich to break in a motor? Who babies their motor during break-in? Start it, let it idle for about 15 seconds, then roll out slowly thru the gears and engine brake back thru the gears. Then again, with a little more throttle while she's warming up. Then ride it like you stole it up thru the gears and engine brake thru the gears. Park it, let it cool and retorque the head and cylinders after it's fully cool. trickedcarbine
Who puts the needle clip on full rich to break in a motor? Me, if it is an unknown combo for sure. Especially when I help other people who like to get the bike wide open and cut throttle back but try to maintain speed with the motor at 9k down long dirt roads, fields, dunes, whatever. That shit is bad for motors. This way there's less chance of them ruining it and blaming me.
