KEVPOPPAPUMP
Ok according to Hinson's website, you dont need any special clutch basket to run the 8 plate setup, a regular ol' Hinson billet clutch basket will work, BUT you do need the special 8 plate Hinson inner hub & pressure plate. quote from Hinson's site\Banshee section\inner hub: "Must be used with Hinson part number H016(clutch basket) & HO21(pressure plate). Use of this setup will allow (1) extra fiber plate and (1) extra steel plate." The new YFZ450 Hinson clutch allows the use of extra plates, making the total 9 friction plates, but this is only on the YFZ. Banshee's go up to 8 plates, YFZ go up to 9 plates. Cool thanks for researching that Meat! I will take that extra plate/fiber out tonight.
boonman
After reading this thread from start to finish, I realized like SDD did that you CANNOT pull the clutch lever for any adjustment except the final free play adjustment. I too was in the same boat when my adjuster screw stripped out. I bought a new one, and how you do it is exactly like SDD described. You push on the clutch actuation arm untill you feel it bottom out. (you shouldn't be able to push the arm enough to disengage the clutch pressure plate at all. if you can, than your springs are not in there properly, or the pressure plate isn't in there properly and something is wrong. Do not proceed further, and investigate the situation. The arrows must line up on the basket, and you will be set to adjust the arm. The arrows on the case are a guide. You use the adjustment bolt to get the arrows to line up. Once that is all good, then move up to the lever. give it a pull, (lightly) to take up the slack. if you can't adjust the lever free play adjustment to take the free play out of the cable, than the cable is stretched beyond it's useable limit and it must be replaced. No questions asked. Replace it. You have already burnt up a clutch because of improper installation/setup. Do you wanna burn another one because of a $15 cable? I didn't think so.
