I just finished a total rebuild for my sons 99 banshee.

.080 bore

fmf pipes for now

uni filter

+8 timing

etc, basic build

He has lots of his friends calling him out with raptors, dirt bikes etc.

Sooo

I am running a 20x10-9 rear tire and a 13/40 sprocket setup

Theres a local banshee guy with full drag bike. He says a 16/38. Sounds like alot of gear to pull?

Any suggestions?

liz450 and raptor i doubt will give us much trouble. But theres a ktm 250 i gotta get things right. lol

Are you going to race on sand, dirt or asphal? 300ft, 500ft or longer?

People would like to hear more info to help you.

I´d say +8 timing is quite alot. And stock 14-41 gearing is pretty good starting point.

How much your son weights?

Its bored .080 over prox pistons

fmf fatty pipes and silencers

carbon and fiberglass dual stage reeds

stock ports

timing is at +6 right now

running  the br8es plugs

Gearing now is 13/40

320 mains need to jet a little leaner

yes ltr450 stock.  Gonna find out year. its alittle older of a bike

500ft on dirt

1/8th mile on street.

with a 13/40 gear what type of mph will it run. Do not want them pulling and his banshee maxed out. Thats gearing concern.

+8 seemed a lot to me also. One of the bigger all out banshee drag guys here also has a atv repair shop and builds bikes for others of course.

Says he sets them all at +8. Mine is actually bit less than +6 cause I was nervous. lol

I appreciate every ones opinion and do not seem to trust him whole lot. Bought the bike from him that needed rings and bearings. Bike was total trash. case and trans was all I could use on engine. paid $900 and now 3k later I have a new bike and a extremely excited kid. so alls good now.

Gonna order a 38 rear. brand new chain and no more reach. Plus with my case saver i am not sure how big of front sprocket I can fit.

75mph is basically stock. would we not be able to gear for more top end. Wanna make sure we do not run out of gear before 1/8th mile.

I wouldn't stray from a 14/41 sprocket combo. We have played with the gearing a couple times on our play quad. The best times & mph have come with the 14/41 combo & a 20.5 dia. tire. My son weighs 210-220. Our best mph in the 1/8 was 80 mph & 1/4 mile 92 mph.

I think most of the information is in the thread below.
