MessyJesse69
I'm looking into advance timing plates. As I need a new startor because my banshee is cutting out at high revs. I have a .40 bore and stock pipes. Single uni air filter. Will +5 timing give me any extra power? VegasJeff
Change the stock pipes out and the timing plate at the same time. Check the pick up gap and jet accordingly.
trickedcarbine
Also, you mention you are looking at plates and stators. Be very leary of the stator and cast plate combos. STAY AWAY FROM: RM Rick's Rickey Stator Electro Sport Racetech (suit your self folks, mine didn't work and I had to fix the replacement as well)
bluebanshee98
While this may be a stator issue you might wanna try to replace your spark plug caps with new ones first. Bad caps can have it break up bad/cut out in the high rpms. The caps are not expensive. Some suggest cutting back a lil bit on the wire before installing new caps to get a good connection. MessyJesse69
I've already cleaned carbs and changed plugs. New pipes aren't an option as I'm not made of money. I sold my dynoport 2:1 to get the stockers. So what do you mean by stay away from cast stator and plates?

trickedcarbine
So what do you mean by stay away from cast stator and plates?Do not buy a plate that is cast aluminum. Make sure to get a Billit one. They are 20-30 bucks more, however they prevent catastrophes that are known to happen with the cheaper junk powder cast cheapos. salmon_slayer06
I modded my stock plate. The OEM stators are the best ones. Look online for a working used one. Make sure you seal the stator side engine cover with RTV even though it has a gasket. I've had problems in the past with water getting behind there. May have been the reason why I killed a stator last summer.
trickedcarbine
Modded stocker is also a viable option

MessyJesse69
Not the cutting out. With my current setup will it improve performance? I'm not worried about cutting out I know my stator is taking a poop.

MessyJesse69
How would I check them? When I tore the motor apart last time stator was in ruff shape. I cleaned it up best I could. Looked like water seeped into the case on that side
MessyJesse69
Can you answer my question about the advanced timing? If my bike is running fine. With stick pipes .40 bore and single foam filter with box and lid with holes in it. No snorkel will the advanced timing make it worth the cost?
