mhoksch
My normal race series was cancelled this morning due to standing water on the ice so I drove 3 hours north to the Central Wisconsin series. This is my first time racing up there and I'm not quite set up on suspension yet but I was pretty happy with a 3rd place finish. I think if I had been a bit more aggressive in the turns I may have been able to do better...
Deadbeat
you def got the speed to beat those guys, not much in it really, they got a better start and you caught up and hung with them no probs
Surfrjag
looks like fun but your all over the place
mhoksch
Thanks. Cam builds some kickass motors!! I'm hoping to get the suspension dialed in some on Friday. Ice was also melting all day and sloppy as hell...
trickedcarbine
Right on. 3rd ain't shabby, especially with a laundry list of things you can improve.
mhoksch
Ya, I wont post the video of my second moto though... kinda caught the cushion on my second lap and got sucked to the outside. I was fighting for 2nd and 3rd but dropped to last and couldn't make up many positions.
gusto
So what would be the best type of engine build for ice and how much hp is needed?
mhoksch
Crf 450 in aluminum lrd chassis seems to be the winning setup around here... But I'm loving the motor I have. Just need to do more chassis setup to get it to stick. Handling is more important than horsepower
special06shee
I could definitely get into that. Shit looks cool as fuck. Nice work!

gusto
Just watched, your bike looks fast. I always think of a big torque pipe like an SLP would be awesome for this.
mhoksch
I could definitely get into that. Shit looks cool as fuck. Nice work! Thanks Looks fun but fuck that cold shit. It is n't that bad actually. You dress for the weather, this season is actually been TOO warm. getting into the 30's on race day means soft ice and not hooking up well. Just watched, your bike looks fast. I always think of a big torque pipe like an SLP would be awesome for this. I've considered that. Now that I got mine running right I'm going to finish setting up the suspension on Friday. It's got enough down low to pull hard through the corners in 4th. I'll try to throw up some new videos this coming Sunday. If weather stays nice I've got a big 2 day race this weekend.
gusto
What pipe are you running? How much hp to be competitive?
mhoksch
I have shearer in frames. I actually have mine tuned pretty conservatively @ 83 HP. Can't really say how much u need to be competitive. I have way more than Anyone I race against but without then proper chassis setup I still can't win
trickedcarbine
MHO.... one thing ive noticed watching ice races lately... our bikes have the speed and power over 4 strokes to hold the outside line...Exactly how I had to ride to run with this fella. Friggin kid races sport bikes and motocross in Pro Am all year and he is freaking fast. He wouldn't give up the inside so I had to spend the whole day working the outside to get around him every time we ran laps. The trick is to set your self up. Use your bike to clean out the turn gradually where it's building up. Then a few laps in, you sort of have a cleaner path to try and make a run by on the out side. In this photo we are just coming out of the turn. Normally at that point if you're on the inside, you are typically working the clutch, hunting gears, or doing what ever you have to to get the bike to START to come alive while the 4 strokes sort of just lug away till you're hooked up and grabbing gears. But you have to play catch up before you can run by on the straight. So if you can avoid that all together and situate you're self so that the bike is charging hard from the apex of the turn, you're already full steam when the straight starts. Which leaves 4 pokes no chance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
